Scouting Notes
- Plays like a seasoned vet with great awareness and field understanding.
- Great feel for zone coverage and spacing.
- Freakish, and I mean FREAKISH alien-like arms.
- Good ball tracking with very timing and precise head-swivel.
- Excellent at the LOS. Disciplined in press coverage, and hardly ever gets killed by a good release.
- Hips are smooth as butter, flipping with good timing and ease.
- Top-notch step-mirroring.
- Wraps up very well as a tackler, but lacks “hurt” as a tackler.
- High-end athleticism is lacking. Quickness and explosion weren’t present.
- Breaking on routes isn’t as quick as you would want.
- Change of direction almost always came with extra steps.
- Play strength is a serious concern. Lower body strength was underwhelming, and strong hands brought in everything. Few of his PBUs came from “4 hands on the ball” type of situations.
Short Summary
Joey Porter Jr. is wildly underrated in this draft. He is definitely in the top tier along with Christian Gonzalez and Devon Witherspoon. Both have fatal flaws, while JPJ is way more polished and well-rounded. That being said, he also lacks the explosiveness, dominance, or athleticism that the others have. That is likely the result of his lowered stock.
His NFL bloodline couldn’t be more apparent on tape. He has a great feel for the game and is one of the most natural Corners out there. The unreal arm length is also worth betting on.
Joey Porter Jr. is far from a perfect prospect, but he has a very high floor in the NFL. He will be a multi-year quality starter at the very least, with the potential to be a top-tier player.

- Snaps/PEN – Snaps per Penalty. In other words, how many snaps does he play before getting his next penalty. The higher the number, the better.
- TDA – Touchdowns Allowed.
- RecYdsA/Tgt – Receiving Yards Allowed per Target.
