It didn’t end the way it was expected to. After Dustin Poirier went to war and finished Benoit St-Denis, he helped give his teammate Renato Carneiro a bunch of notes. And told him the former French Special Forces Soldier would put a pace on him. But after a good doctor stoppage a pair of ATT fighters have finished the Frenchman.
Moicano took the center of the octagon quickly with both fighters looking to their kicking games. But Moicano was able to catch and counter one, working it into a takedown. And in a nutshell, it was all over from there. The Brazilian Jiu-Jistu Blackbelt used suffocating grappling and absolutely vicious ground and pound to rip the hometown fighters face to shreds. As St Denis tried to fight his way out he got locked into a body triangle.
St Denis’ cutman has to be given credit for quickly working on the damage. But it was undeniably going to be bad for St Denis. He actually across all three scorecards wound up winning the round with little to no vision. Which shows two things. One; St Denis still has the heart of a soldier. And two, Moicano has some explaining on why he didn’t go for the kill.
ATT Fighters Finish St Denis, But Neither Is Closer To A Title Shot
Playing the role of heel, Moicano praised how nice Paris is, but then ripped the government to shreds in a profanity laced tirade. While he most likely would have gotten the finish in round three if not stopped by the cageside doctor, Moicano has to know the overall performance might leave some with questions. He’s talked that he’d like to make a title run. However, when you smell blood in the water and your opponent can’t see, you must finish him right there. After all, one lucky strike the other way, and he takes the “L”.
The Brazilian did say he wants easy money fights though. He mentioned both Paddy Pimblett and Dan Hooker. Pimblett doesn’t have the striking or the movement, but on the ground he can almost match him. And recently Hooker has become more of an enigma. His striking is there at times, but on the ground, he’s like a fish out of water.
There’s no problems perse with either call out. But Moicano better figure out what he really wants, and fast. The strap, or easy money scraps. Because the paths are very different.
