The long wait is finally over and the NFL has started. Yes, we are only in the preseason, but the regular season is just around the corner. It also starts the emotion of Sundays, the fun with family and friends, the adrenaline of NFL gambling and all the great stuff that this fabulous sport brings to us.
A way in which my brothers and I put more fun and emotion to each season is by betting on some good picks. In this first publication about gambling, I would like to explain what my weekly column is going to be about it.
Betting Against The Spread
I always like to start the season explaining the basic terms of the betting world, so that new readers can follow us without any problem.
First of all, when I mention the word “pick”, I mean my selection or forecast for a certain game. For example in a supposed New England Patriots vs. Buffalo Bills game where the spread is at -7 for the Patriots, my pick would be Patriots -7.
This brings us to the second explanation. What does that “-7” mean?
That’s what we called the “spread”, the favorite teams will always have a negative spread and the non-favorites or “underdogs”, as they are known in the betting language, will have extra points. For example, continuing with the same game, if Patriots have -7, Bills has +7. That means, if we are going to bet on New England, they would have to win by more than 7 points in order to cover the spread and we can cash in our bet.
However, if we bet on Buffalo, they can lose, for less than 7 points and we still win our bet. If the game is decided by the exact difference of 7 points, it is considered “push” or “draw” and nobody wins or loses, we get our money back.
Betting Over and Under
These betting lines are determined by the bookmakers and will vary according to each game. Another form of betting in the NFL is “Over and Under”
What is this? This is to bet on how many points are scored in the game by both teams combined.
The bookmakers also determine an over and underline for each game. Following the same example, in the supposed confrontation between Patriots and Bills, suppose that the over/under is placed at 45.5 points. If we bet the overs there would have to be 46 or more points scored in the game, in order to win our bet. On the other hand, if we bet the unders, there would have to be 45 or less combined points to win it.
In this case, having a half-point on the line, there could be no tie, since in the NFL there are no fractional points in an encounter. This is something that casinos commonly do, put the lines with decimal points, to avoid draws, you only can win or lose.
Betting Money Line
There is also the betting mode called “Money Line” in which you simply bet on the winner of the game, regardless of the spread, in this mode if we bet on the favorite, we will have a lower profit, and if we bet on the Underdog, our gain will be greater.
Weekly Picks
Having explained this, let’s see what I will be sharing with you every week:
A Pick of the Week
This pick is the game that I consider the safest to bet.
A Hunch Pick
This is a pick in which I believe that a team that nobody is betting on can surprise and win or cover the spread.
A Normal Parlay or a Parlay in Round Robin Mode
-Normal Parlay: It is a combination of 2 or more picks in which we must hit all the picks to win it, but if we hit them, the profits are very juicy.
-Parlay in Round Robin Mode: In this mode, our profits decrease a bit compared to the normal Parlay, but it is much more likely to succeed since it divides the selected Picks into several 2-team parlays. For example, if we select 3 Picks, in The Round Robin mode, the picks are going to be divided into three parlays of two Picks each: Pick 1 with Pick 2; Pick 2 with Pick 3, and Pick 1 with Pick 3.
For more information about this betting mode, do not hesitate to contact me or simply go to google look for “Round Robin Betting” and enter one of the available tutorials.
An Additional Pick
I will only share an additional pick when I see something really attractive in addition to the aforementioned.
Advice Before Betting
The best advice I can give you is this: use gambling merely as fun; the famous saying “The house never loses” is true. Whoever wants to become a millionaire by betting will be left with nothing in 99.9% of cases.
Don’t spend a lot on bets, don’t get mad when you don’t win and when you win, enjoy your profits. Don’t bet everything you won, leave 20% of your winnings to bet again, and take the remaining 80% for your pockets. If you do so, you are going to have a lot of fun and some weeks you are going to take extra profit to have fun with your family and friends.
It’s all for this week, see you soon with more of the NFL !!!
