The New England Patriots are 7-0 to start the season after they shutout the New York Jets on the road on Monday night by a score of 33-0.
New England is most likely going to get the number one seed in the AFC this season. Are the Patriots that good in 2019 or are their opponents just that bad?
It is definitely a mixture of both for sure. They are a good team because Head Coach Bill Belichick knows how to scheme things, especially on the defense side of the ball.
Tom Brady hasn’t exactly lit it up this season. But the running game with Sony Michel, Brandon Bolden, and James White has helped him out.
The only team New England has played so far this season that has been decent is the 5-1 Buffalo Bills. That is a game they should have actually lost on the road.
If Josh Allen did not get a concussion in that game, Buffalo was going to win that game. Tom Brady had nothing going for him that day.
The Pittsburgh Steelers (2-4), the New York Jets (1-5) twice. The Miami Dolphins (0-6), the Washington Redskins (1-6). The New York Giants (2-5) were some of the other teams that the Patriots have played so far this season.
All of those teams are a combined 6-14. They face the Cleveland Browns (2-4) this Sunday at home. Even though this team does have talent, Cleveland is also under .500 and people will continue to say this team has played nobody.
After the Browns game, the next five games for the New England will all feature potential playoff teams.
On November 3, they will go on the road and face the Baltimore Ravens (5-2), New England will have a bye week on November 10. The Patriots will face the Philadelphia Eagles (3-4) on the road on November 17, New England will host the Dallas Cowboys (4-3) on November 24, the New England Patriots will face the Houston Texans (4-3) on the road on December 1, and New England will host the Kansas City Chiefs (5-2) with Patrick Mahomes back on December 8.
There is no chance the Patriots finish that stretch 5-0. I would not be surprised to see this team finish this stretch no better than 2-3 or 3-2. They are way too good to finish 1-4 or 0-5 in that stretch. But if for some strange reason they do, then it goes to show that the New England Patriots schedule the first half of the season was a bunch of cupcakes.
New England’s defense is going to give up at least 20 points in all five of those games. There will be at least two games where they will give up 30 points.
This team will still make the playoff and you are delusional if you think they are going to miss. The biggest question will be with this team, are the New England Patriots benefiting from a soft schedule or are they actually legit.
One of the trades this team made on Tuesday was acquire wide receiver Mohamed Sanu from the Atlanta Falcons for a second-round draft pick.
Sanu has caught 33 passes for 313 yards and one touchdown so far this season. He is 30 years old.
Mohamed Sanu will be along with Josh Gordon and Julian Edelman in the passing game.
We will see what happens with this team moving forward. There could be a ton of storylines with this team if they start to lose games.
Luckily for the New England Patriots, they have not had to worry about September slip ups this season. But their goal is to win Super Bowl LIV in Miami on February 2.
