After an exciting(and heartbreaking) AFC Championship loss. the Chiefs have some difficult decisions to make. This is the period for some of Chiefs Kingdom to wash away the nasty taste from their mouths and find other things to do. To others, this is the time of the year they start looking at what the Chiefs can do in the off season to improve the team This includes suggesting coaching changes, looking at available free agents and evaluating what the Chiefs should be looking at in the 2019 draft. The football season doesn’t end for these fanatics. It’s merely the start of the next season. How do I know so much about these lunatics? It’s because I’m one of them.
Right now, we’re waiting for our “wonder boy” to fill his trophy case with multiple individual awards, such as league MVP, offensive player of the year and many other accolades that are too many to mention. When the smoke clears and all is calm for most Chiefs fans. The crazed fans are hard at work, studying, suggesting, and even arguing about the teams next big move. Sounds kinda crazy, right? Maybe to some, but we’ve been aching for a championship for so long, that we look at the off season long before it’s “en vogue”. Chiefs fanatics can’t quit being Chiefs fanatics, simply because they’re not playing another game for 7 months. So, here’s what we’re talking about now.
It’s pretty clear to all NFL fans, that our offense really doesn’t need to be fixed. Our special teams has pretty much been top 5 for years, so we won’t criticise it either. Our defense is our focus for the time being. The majority of us want a change at the Defensive Coordinator position. Our defense is bringing up the bottom of the league. in most meaningful statistics. We’re wanting a change and we have a pretty darn good reason to want one. Bob Sutton has been our DC since Andy was brought aboard. A lot of the good defensive minds have already been scooped up. We don’t particularly know WHO we want to replace Coach Sutton, but THAT we want a change.
We’re also starting to dive into free agency. Who’s available that can instantly help our cause.? We’re thinking that an overhaul in the defensive backfield is warranted. Our pass rush led the league in sacks, so that’s obviously not the problem. Our inside linebackers had a terrible first 15 weeks of the season and until Sunday, we thought they might actually be turning the corner. We are positive that most of our DBs aren’t starting caliber, or aren’t ready for primetime yet. We need a free agent(or 4) to hold down the fort, until the kids are ready to take over. We’re watching a couple of our young ILBs grow up before our eyes, but they aren’t ready either. We’re financially “joined at the hip” to Anthony Hitchens and Reggie Ragland has been making plays lately. but the missed tackles can’t be ignored. It’s a consensus that we need instant help at LB, CB and Safety.
We haven’t quite jumped into it with both feet yet, but we know at what positions need help and and will most likely target in the draft Some of us watched the East/West shrine game last Saturday and will watch the Senior Bowl this Saturday. Only the craziest of the crazy watch these games, so we can play GM. The East/West Shrine game spotlights the late round players, so unless you’re also a mock draft junkie(i’m guilty of that too) you’ll be doing something else. I watch it to write down my “sleepers”, so I can look like an idiot when the player fizzles out. The Senior Bowl spotlights the big dogs in the draft. Anyway, the 2019 season is already underway for Chiefs fanatics.
There is no off-season for the Chiefs fanatic. The Chiefs past history has us programmed into thinking ahead to next season. This has been our way of life. Now, we all know that it doesn’t matter what we think should happen with the Chiefs during the off-season, but that doesn’t stop us from giving suggestions to anyone who’ll listen. It’s just that the Chiefs are our life and we don’t have any intentions of quitting what we enjoy doing. In saying that, we need to draft DBs, ILB’s and interior offensive linemen. I’m sure someone will have a different suggestion, but this is a family thing for Chiefs Kingdom. We’ll argue all day long about things that we have no control over. Just don’t jump into the middle of a family argument, because we’ll both turn on you in a heartbeat
Yes. we’re crazy. We know that it’s not normal to do what we do. Honestly, we know our opinions don’t mean squat. Do you think a little thing like that is gonna stop us from doing what we love?
