Yesterday, a very in depth article hit the web from Bleacher Report about the falling out between Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy and how it ruined the Green Bay Packers chances at multiple championships over the past decade. But the article also revealed the arrogance of Aaron Rodgers and the stupidity of the Green Bay packers as an organization.
He should have won six
Bleacher report quoted an anonymous teammate of Aaron Rodgers saying that with his talent they should have won at least six rings, that the Green Bay Packers of the early 2010’s should have had New England-esque dominance in the NFC. But Aaron Rodgers has never been that good. He’s not Tom Brady, he doesn’t have the insatiable drive to win, to propel your team forward by whatever means you can. He isn’t a leader. Rodgers isn’t Peyton Manning, the Bleacher report article mentions he took over calling plays because he didn’t respect his coach. But Aaron doesn’t have the same football IQ as a QB like Manning, able to read and dissect any defense albeit those made by Bill Belichick himself. Aaron Rodgers may be one of the most talented QB’s to ever touch the field but he never had the mind of Manning or the drive of Brady to propel himself to their level. Yet he and his teams believed they deserved that success.
Aaron the Overrated
Aaron Rodgers is a great QB, he is clearly hall of fame bound and by all accounts, first ballot. So how can he be overrated? Last season when the Packers and the Patriots met in the regular season, the major sports networks advertised it as a battle between two of the greatest of all time. Aaron Rodgers does not belong in that conversation. He has not had the consistency over his career to be in the same breath as Manning, Brady and Montana. In fact, I have made the argument that Drew Brees has been a better QB over the course of his career. I don’t even think Rodgers has surpassed Favre as a Packer. Rodgers is injury prone, he alienates his receivers like when he joked about trading Greg Jennings mid game the year before he left Green Bay. There’s no doubt that Aaron Rodgers is a gifted QB; he can extend a play like few other QB’s before him and launch a highlight heavy Hail Mary, but he has never had the consistent dominance of his counter parts. Brady has the big game performances, Manning has the regular season and statistical dominance, Brees has the accuracy and total numbers. What does Rodgers have? QBR and a few spectacular plays.
