The Second half of the WNBA season is underway, with that the MVP race is coming to the forefront. The Connecticut Sun and The Las Vegas Aces lead the Eastern and Western Conferences in tight battles. The WNBA MVP race will likely come down to the wire. There are a lot of good players having outstanding seasons. Let’s take a look at the women leading the charge in the race.
Elena Delle Donne Washington Mystics
Elena Delle Donne is averaging 18.1 points per game so far this season for the Mystics. She is shooting 48 percent from the field and 43 percent from three. Delle Donne can do it all on the court, and Elena is shooting 94 percent from the free-throw line. If Washington finishes with a top-two seed, she will more than likely win the MVP award.
Jonquel Jones Connecticut Sun
Jones leads the WNBA in Rebounds 10.4 and blocks 2.2 per game. On offense, Jones is averaging 15.9 points per game on 46 shooting from the field. Jones is averaging a double-double and has become an elite rim protector in the WNBA. If the Sun can take over the number one seed, Jones may be able to steal the MVP away from Delle Donne.
Liz Cambage Las Vegas Aces
Cambage is a big part of the reason that the Aces are on top of the Western Conference. She has adjusted well to playing with A’Ja Wilson and Kayla McBride. Cambage is averaging 15 points and eight rebounds per game. Also, she averages almost two blocks per game. With her size and skill, she is a hard player to contend within the post.
Natasha Howard Seattle Storm
Natasha Howard is an outstanding two-way player. She is averaging 18.1 points per game while shooting 42 percent from the field. On the defensive side of the ball, Howard averages 2.0 steals and 1.7 blocks per game. It is almost impossible not to mention Howard in the MVP race.
Nneka Ogwumike Los Angeles Sparks
Ogwumike has kept the Sparks afloat while dealing with injuries to critical players Candace Parker and Alana Beard. She is averaging 16.6 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. Nneka is shooting 47 percent from the field and a career-high 41 percent from three-point land. Ogwumike also plays outstanding defense; she always plays the passing lanes well.
Also deserving consideration
DeWanna Bonner and Brittney Griner are the top two scorers in the WNBA. But their team record is not excellent. If Mercury can go on a big run in the second half, both players can be in the mix to win the MVP.
