The Washington Mystics beat the Indiana Fever 91-78 on Thursday night. The Mystics jumped to a 25-16 first-quarter lead thanks to a 10 point first quarter by Elena Delle Donne. Indiana had a strong second quarter to cut the lead to 44-42 at half time.
Washington came out in the second half aggressive with a 14-6 run. When the 4th quarter started, the Mystics were up 73-57, so the Washington Mystics beat the Fever pretty good in the third quarter. Here are some key players for the Mystics in their victory.
Elena Delle Donne
Delle Donne led both teams in scoring with 22 points; she shot 9-13 from the field. Elena was very efficient on the floor. She also added eight rebounds. Delle Donne is probably the front runner for WNBA MVP; if she can remain healthy, the Mystics can take it all.
Kristi Toliver
Toliver did not have a great game shooting the ball going 0-6 from the field and scoring 0 points. But she played a good floor game dishing out 11 assists and three rebounds. She also played some excellent defense. Just because your shot is not falling does not mean you can’t do other things to help your team win, Kristi showed that on Thursday night.
Emma Meesseman
Emma scored 19 points off the bench; she helped pick up the slack for Kristi Toliver lousy shooting night. Meesseman was 8-10 from the floor in just 20 minutes of play. She provided a big lift for the Mystics.
LaToya Sanders
Sanders played well; also, she scored 16 points and was very efficient from the field as well. LaToya shot 8-11 from the field and added five rebounds.
Natasha Cloud
Cloud played a team-high 34 minutes scoring 13 points on 5-9 shooting and 3-5 from the arc. She added five assists and played excellent defense as well.
Aerial Powers
Powers like Meesseman had a solid game off the bench. Aerial scored 14 points on 4-8 shooting from the field. Powers was another player that stepped up on the bad shooting night from Toliver. She played an outstanding all-around game.
