NFL Week 1 of football gets underway with an NFC East showdown between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys. Here is NFL Week 1 preview: New York Giants vs Dallas Cowboys.
New York Giants: Preseason Recap And Preview
The Giants had, in my opinion, their most phenomenal preseason in years. Not one loss occurred, especially in their final preseason game against the reigning champion New England Patriots, whom they defeated 31-29 in a second-half comeback. Most of the credit for these victories go to the Giants’ rookies, including rookie quarterback Daniel Jones. He’s been the biggest standout of the three rookie QBs. His performances contributed to the league record of nine touchdown passes. It also brought in 119 total points, an average 305.5 passing yards, and 393 total offensive yards.
Now despite the performances Jones displayed, he will play backup as Eli Manning was named the starting QB. This will mark his 15th consecutive start in his now 16th season. Running back Saquon Barkley will also be ready to start despite not playing throughout the preseason. Golden Tate III will be absent for the first four games for violating the performance-enhancers policy. The defense is expected to deliver in the same way they did during the preseason. Dexter Lawrence will make their run defense look better. Tae Davis, Lorenzo Carter and Markus Golden will help with the rush pass.
Dallas Cowboys: Preseason Recap And Preview
Dallas, on the other hand, was back-and-forth with their preseason. They ended it with a split preseason record after a 17-15 loss to Tampa Bay. One of the difficult things they had to go through was not having Ezekiel Elliott around. He was a holdout through the preseason as he was seeking out a new contract. However, his absence paved the way for rookie Tony Pollard to make a standout impression that wins him the backup position for Zeke.
Now that Zeke signed his new 6-year, $90 million contract extension, the majority of last season’s starters are ready to come back together. Dak Prescott will be the starting QB for the Cowboys and will be joined alongside Zeke once again. Also set to start this Sunday is wide receiver, Amari Cooper. He’s been resting for most of the preseason due to a heel injury. The defense will have some starters returning to the field after missing preseason to nurse their injuries.
Who Wins?
This game would seem like the Giants vs. Cowboys games from last season with Manning and Prescott taking the lead. The Cowboys won last season’s meetings against the Giants. This shouldn’t be a problem for them if they keep Manning as QB. However, getting Jones out there can give Dallas some competition, but he and the offense don’t compare to the triple threat of Prescott, Zeke, and Cooper. However, I think their defense will be a wild card, especially with a hard-hitter like Lawrence. This game will be the first steps for a newly invigorated Giants team, but Dallas will get the 5th consecutive win they need.
