The headline of the Redskins losing is no longer a headline; rather it has almost become an expectation. Washington faced off against the Buffalo Bills and lost 24-9. Fans most notably would be excited about two things; the start of Dwayne Haskins and Adrian Peterson’s 100+ yard game. Redskins in danger of losing more than a season.

Coaches will run the ball to get the quarterback acclimated to the speed of an NFL game. With Bill Callahan being the “run first” coach he is, it is only fitting that Peterson had the day that he had. All-Day tallied 108 yards, on 18 attempts, averaging 6 yards per attempt, however, no touchdowns. Not even one. Dwayne Haskins, on the other hand, had a lukewarm performance. The number 15 overall draft pick completed 15 of 22 pass attempts for 144 yards and finished with a QB rating of 86.2. Most alarming, however, he was sacked 4 times. This could mean one of two things; either the offensive line played terribly, or, the quarterback still has some things to work on, which is expected. Despite this, the Redskins find themselves in danger of losing more than just their season.

Redskins In Danger

Last Tuesday, the Washington Nationals did the unexpected. They rallied from a 19-31 losing season to emerge as the reigning World Series Champions of the MLB. The championship parade was held on Saturday. Tens of thousands of Washington fans descended upon the capital to celebrate the area’s third championship in 2 years. The Washington Mystics captured their first WNBA title earlier in the year as well. Do not forget the Capitals winning their first Stanley Cup title in 2018.

With all these new Washington champions, the light has moved from the Redskins who have 3 Super Bowls under their belt. So why are teams with no prior championship pedigree receiving all the love and support, while the once-great Redskins draw so much ire? A black cloud looms over the Redskins organization. As previously stated, the Redskins are a poorly run organization with Dan Snyder leading the charge. Underneath him is Bruce Allen who is considered a joke around the league.

Michael Lombardi who worked with him during his time with the Raiders said this about Allen as a GM: “Bruce has been the general manager under the disguise as a football guy. And let’s face it, Bruce never did any football with the Raiders when I worked there. He wasn’t even in the draft meetings when we were there. He never was involved in player personnel”. Mix in a few swirling controversies like Trent Williams not wanting to play, the unwillingness to trade Williams, signing of players with less than stellar histories. Add an interim coach and players that are over the hump and BOOM! Ladies and gentlemen, the Washington Redskins.

Redskins In Danger

It is painfully obvious that the Redskins are far gone from the glory days. The front office does not seem to operate like a “normal” football organization. Coach Callahan during a presser Monday would not commit to naming Haskins the starter for the remainder of the year. This is one of the confusing moves. Why continue to go with veteran quarterbacks that “give us the best chance to win”? Start Haskins to evaluate him for next season. Redskins have been terrible at standing behind their drafted guys, especially quarterbacks. This only further plays into Snyder’s and Allen’s warped cultural view of being close to good. The first step to recovery is admitting there is a problem. Honestly, the organization the Redskins will permanently lose an entire fanbase if things don’t change.
