During the Titans week 6 matchup against the Denver Broncos, the Titans finally pulled the trigger and benched Marcus Mariota. Ryan Tannehill was sent in to replace him and since then, the Titans have been rolling to a 3-1 record and are sitting at 5-5 tied for second in the AFC South going into their bye week.
Ryan Tannehill has gone 84 for 120 and 1017 yards in those four games as a starter. He has also accumulated 8 touchdowns as well. That’s almost 100 yards shorter than Mariota and one more score in less games.
Tennessee Titans are going into their bye week coming off a major victory against the now (6 – 4) Kansas City Chiefs. This also saw the return of Patrick Mahomes from his knee injury. This loss opens up more criticism to the Kansas City defense as we question their true legitimacy to make a super bowl run. Its possible that the score looks alot differently if Damien williams doesn’t fumble in the second quarter when the Chiefs had all the momentum.
This game wasn’t all tannehill though. The Titans lived through the ground. Derrick Henry pounded his way to almost 200 yards and 2 scores.
Ryan Tannehill lead Tennessee back to take the lead after being down by 9 midway through the 4th quarter. Tannehill hit Adam Humphries for a 23 yard go ahead touchdown strike with :27 left in the game. This allowed Kansas City with time to set up a game tying field goal to force overtime. However, the Titans blocked the kick and sealed the upset victory over the Chiefs.
This game sets up some heating matchups for future weeks and Kansas City now only leads the AFC West but one game over Oakland. Tennessee now is closing the gap on Houston and sitting at 1.5 games back from the division lead. With key divisional matchups up ahead for Tennessee, Tannehill has given this team new life and the ability to compete against top teams.
