The NFL Playoff picture is getting more clear by the day. With five weeks remaining in the regular season, there are teams that are already not only looking forward to 2020 but also making coaching changes as well. Here are the NFL coaches that are on the hot seat heading into the final five weeks of the season.

Every year, we talk about who is going to be on the hot seat. Jay Gruden was fired as the Washington Redskins head coach after Week 5.

Bill Callahan took over as the interim head coach. I don’t expect Washington to keep Callahan as the coach moving forward. The Redskins will look to hire somebody else after the season is over. Who else could be looking for a new head coach after the 2019 season?

Pat Shurmur

The first coach that comes to mind is Pat Shurmur of the New York Giants. Shurmur has been horrendous in his first season and a half. Pat Shurmur went 5-11 in his first season. He is currently 2-9 and New York has lost seven in a row.

Shurmur is not creative with his play-calling what so ever. He has some way somehow ruined Saquon Barkley.

Dan Quinn

The second coach that comes to mind is Dan Quinn of the Atlanta Falcons. After starting the season 1-7, they have won their last two-out-of-three. Owner Arthur Blank is evaluating him week-to-week. The players love Quinn but the truth of the matter is Blank will move on from him after this season.

Jason Garrett

The third coach that comes to mind is Jason Garrett of the Dallas Cowboys. Owner Jerry Jones has not been pleased with his coaching efforts this season. Dallas is 0-4 against quality opponents and they have some more moving forward. Anything less than the NFC Championship Game will force Jones to make a move.

Garrett is on an expiring contract. Jerry Jones will not renew it.

Matt Patricia

The fourth coach that comes to mind is Matt Patricia of the Detroit Lions. It appeared as if Detroit was moving in the right direction after a 2-1-1 start to the season. The Lions are sitting in the cellars once again in the NFC North with a 3-7-1 record.

Detroit finished with a 4-12 record last season. The only saving grace for Patricia’s job might be quarterback Matthew Stafford being injured. Other than that, he may not get a pass.

Bill O’Brien

The fifth coach that comes to mind is Bill O’Brien of the Houston Texans. At the moment, they sit at 7-4 and in first place in the AFC South. However, he has only won one playoff game in his coaching tenure with Houston.

O’Brien does not coach well in big games. If the Texans miss the playoffs or don’t get at least to the AFC Divisional Round, I could very well see him getting fired.

Doug Marrone

The sixth coach that comes to mind is Doug Marrone of the Jacksonville Jaguars. I don’t understand what has happened to Jacksonville in a span of a few years. Jacksonville was in the AFC Championship Game two years ago against the New England Patriots.

They lost that game by a score of 24-20. The Jaguars have talent on the roster and they are 4-8 so far this season. Jacksonville currently sits in the last place in the AFC South.

Some other coaches to keep an eye on Ron Rivera of the Carolina Panthers, Freddie Kitchens of the Cleveland Browns, and Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
