It’s almost that time for superstars in the WNBA to either re-sign with their perspective teams or decide to move on. Lamarr and I will breakdown the two players than can benefit the Sparks this upcoming season.
Skylar Diggins-Smith
As we know Skylar Diggins-Smith is an unrestricted free agent and her future with the Dallas Wings is questionable. Skylar missed the 2019 season due to injuries. But let’s not forget her 2018 season, pregnancy and all. Without Skylar letting anyone know she was playing pregnant during the 2018 season, she played astounding basketball, not missing a beat. Such a risky move not only for her but for the baby. The numbers don’t lie and she can help any team she goes to.
In 2018 she averaged 17.9 points per game, 1.4 steals, 6.2 assists, and 3.3 total rebounds. Skylar can do it all and can help any team win a championship. She is a facilitator who can score in the paint and can shoot at any given moment. With 40 % from the field, this will help the Los Angeles Sparks get the next level. The Sparks need a guard like Skylar that can do it all and push the momentum on a consistent level.
What the Sparks were missing last season is someone that can push the game and help them score. Will we see Skylar in purple and gold this upcoming season? We shall see but I am wishfully thinking she does. Skylar is exactly what the Sparks need.
Emma Meesseman
There are many big-name free agents in the WNBA this offseason that many teams would like to sign. I want the Los Angeles Sparks to sign center Emma Meesseman.
Meesseman was the 2019 WNBA Finals MVP for the Washington Mystics. In the Playoffs, Meesseman averaged 19.3 points per game on 58% shooting from the field and 51% shooting from three-point land. For the season, Meesseman put up good numbers as well, averaging 13.1 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. She also shot 55% from the field and 42% from three.
Emma Meesseman would be a perfect fit for the Sparks offense. She can shot from the outside and Meesseman would be perfect for the pick and roll and pick and pop offense. Meesseman would be able to stretch the floor for Candace Parker and Nneka Ogwumike to have space in the post area.
