Dustin Rhodes vs. Kip Sabian
Dustin Rhodes announced via ‘ROAD TO TNT CHAMPIONSHIP‘ on Youtube this week that if he couldn’t defeat Kip Sabian tonight, he would retire.
Cody spoke about what it would mean for his brother to retire like this, “If you look at Dustin now, what an absolute, just out of left field, frustrating thing to say to me because he’s been on such a roll.” Cody said. “Him and QT (Marshall) with the ‘Natural Nightmares,’ winning matches, him beating Sammy Guevara, him coming in in the clinch when Nick Jackson went down to team with ‘Hangman’ Adam Page and get a win over Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara. To get a win over the Inner Circle that has really eluded the Elite didn’t elude Dustin.”
Ever since coming to AEW at Double or Nothing and having the Pro Wrestling Illustrated (PWI) Match of the Year with Cody, Dustin Rhodes has been a staple of AEW Dynamite nearly every week. Rhodes was originally going to retire after last year’s Double or Nothing, but it was Cody who made him stay.
“You have those retirement matches where there’s a good feeling ad you kind of want closure. You want the individual to lose.” Cody said. “This is a retirement match that I wouldn’t want Dustin to lose and I don’t think the fans would want Dustin to lose.”
This seems out of the blue by Rhodes. He is likely to get the win tonight and is one of the favorites in the whole tournament. Though, could he make it through the quarterfinals and face his younger brother, Cody in the finals? Or will it all come to a halt tonight on AEW Dynamite?
Darby Allin vs. Sammy Guevara
A rematch from Revolution, Sammy Guevara is trying to get his win back over Darby Allin who won their previous bout via Coffin Drop.
This time around, the two square off in the quarterfinals of the TNT championship tournament.
Guevara called out Allin after winning his match last week on AEW Dynamite, which provoked an attack from Allin. Guevara ran away giving Allin the upper hand heading into this week’s match up.
Allin is currently ranked fifth in the AEW power rankings. If Sammy Guevara can pick up the win here, it could mean a lot for not only Guevara, as he would move on to the semi finals, but would give the Inner Circle the momentum they’ve needed for the last few weeks.
