Adam Silver and the NBA have not given up on completing the 2019-20 NBA season. More and more, it’s looking like Disney will be coming to the rescue. In fact, there is now an official plan to restart the season at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida. That got us wondering, what NBA Players have counterparts in Disney’s ever-expanding universe? If you’re thinking this is going to be fun, you’re not wrong. The Belly Up Hoops team presents NBA Players as Disney Characters.
Charles Barkley & Jabba the Hutt From Star Wars
Listen. If you thought we were above taking cheap shots about Chubby Charles you’re sadly mistaken. Okay, fine. Jabba might be up a weight-class or to on Charles. But looking at that picture, can you really deny that there’s a resemblance?
JR Smith & Dory From Finding Nemo
When it comes to NBA Players as Disney Characters let’s face it. We nailed this one. J.R. Smith’s long narrow facial features definitely bear a passing resemblance to the beloved Dory. But the parallels don’t end there. Unfortunately, it was J.R. Smith forgetting the shot-clock in Game 1 of the 2018 NBA Finals that makes him the most like the notoriously forgetful Dory.
Brandon Bass & King Triton From The Little Mermaid
You see what we did there, right? Don’t over think it. Half-man, half-fish. That’s it. That’s all we’re gonna say.
Ray Allen & The Magic Carpet From Aladdin
We were able to come up with so many angles for this one. They’ve got elite skills that include an element of flight. Arguably, they can’t do much on their own, but with a strong cast of characters they’re devastating. They’re silky smooth and keep the words to a minimum. They’re excellent at what they do but are easily overlooked.
And as good as all of these angles are, we saved the ultimate for last.
When Allen is not carrying multiple stars on his back, he spends his time as an accent rug in Kevin Garnett’s library. Garnett doesn’t read much, but he spends six hours a day in the library walking all over Allen.
Allen Iverson & Luke Skywalker From Star Wars
We can sum this comparison up in one word.
Practice!?
Both of these young phenoms had their rationales for not wanting to practice. In fairness, Luke’s wanting to run off to rescue Han Solo and Princess Leia was probably the more forgivable of their respective reasons. But let’s face, it. They both got the job done.
We’re only just getting started with our NBA players as Disney characters comparisons. The rest of our list ranges from so bad they’re good puns to the ones that make you cringe but also laugh. Keep and eye out for part two coming soon.
