Philip Rivers, who retired in late January of 2021, isn’t closing the door on a return to the NFL.
Philip Rivers isn’t closing the door on a potential return to the NFL if there’s a team that needs him, per @LATimesfarmer

Last season, Rivers lead the Colts to an 11-5 record as well as the playoffs. He gave a good Colts team stability at quarterback and redeemed himself after a disappointing final year with the Chargers. If not for his age, you’d have thought Rivers still had some gas left in the tank. Rivers called it a career following their 27-24 loss to the Buffalo Bills during Wild Card Weekend. The former no.4 overall pick had laced up his cleats for the final time and seemed to go out on a high note. Many consider Philip Rivers the second greatest quarterback to never win a Super Bowl, right behind Dan Marino.
But according to new reports, if a team out there needs him, he’d consider coming out of retirement.
How about this: Former #Chargers & #Colts QB Philip Rivers told @LATimesfarmer that he’s not shutting the door on returning to the NFL for late-season stint if a team needs him. Rivers said he’s currently focused on coaching high school football, but the door is still open.

Interestingly enough, Steve Harvey predicted the move while hosting NFL Honors!
Shoutout to Steve Harvey for predicting Philip Rivers would be interested in coming back to the NFL. ?pic.twitter.com/Xt4TBz6wUK

In all seriousness, Philip Rivers’s timing couldn’t be more perfect. Speaking of his former team, the Colts, their starting quarterback Carson Wentz is “out indefinitely,” which leaves a glaring hole at the position. Not to mention, they just lost their All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson to the same injury. Their quarterback room is young and drastically inexperienced. Something that Philip Rivers is not.
And while I believe the Colts should be looking at other options, contacting Rivers wouldn’t be a bad idea.
