Ja Morant just had a career night with the win over the Spurs. He finished with 52 points, breaking the franchise record for points in a game while breaking his own record he just set last game. Morant has slowly but surely become one of the league’s top stars. He brings excitement with him on every possession.
The first highlight was a dunk-of-the-year worthy dunk. Although he probably has about 15 of those dunks already in his career, he put the Spurs starting center on a poster.

The second highlight was an insane buzzer-beater to end the first half. Steven Adams hurled the ball the length of the court to Ja Morant. The length of the NBA court is about 31-yards and it is not easy to throw a basketball like a football, and especially not easy to do it with accuracy. I don’t know if that’s how they drew it up but it worked to perfection.

What an absolute bomb from Adams and then perfect touch from Morant. Easily one of the better buzzer-beaters I’ve ever seen. I can only imagine if that were a game-winning shot. The internet would be broken.
The Road Ahead
Morant now has the Grizzlies sitting in third place in the Western Conference. It will be fun to watch just how far he can take them in the playoffs. I’d consider them to be underdogs in most potential matchups. The Western Conference is stacked and most teams have more than one star on their roster. If the Playoffs were to start today they would have to figure out a way to beat the former MVP Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets. The Nuggets are getting hot, finding themselves on a 6-game win streak, and are still awaiting the return of Jammal Murray, who is a star himself.
Whoever the Grizzlies play, I will be rooting for them.
It is fun to root for the underdogs and especially when they are this fun to watch led by a young star.
