Boston Celtics Head Coach Ime Udoka will likely be facing a suspension for the entire 2022-2023 NBA season. Udoka faces this punishment for playing a role in a consensual relationship with a female staff member. This suspension comes after Udoka’s first year as the head coach and a finals run.
Udoka went 51-31 in his first year, earning his group the second seed in the Eastern Conference. He received NBA Eastern Conference coach of the month in February and March/April. The Celtics’ head coach finished the season on a 17-5 stretch after the all-star game. Udoka led his team to a sweep of the Brooklyn Nets and game seven wins over the Milwaukee Bucks and Miami Heat.
With Udoka out for the year, expect Assistant Joe Mazzulla to take over as interim head coach. Mazzulla has been with the Celtics since 2019. Mazzulla assisted with the Celtics G-League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws, from 2016-2017. He was the head coach at Fairmont State University from 2017-2019 before rejoining Boston.
Boston will look to return to the NBA finals with Mazzulla at the helm.
