Aerosmith announced their Peace Out farewell tour earlier this month. What does Aerosmith’s farewell mean for the music industry? Find out what it could mean below.
Aerosmith Says “Peace Out”
After 53 years of walking the walk and talking the talk, Aerosmith is saying Peace Out. The bad boys from Boston have made a lasting impact on the music world. With the band finding a way to stay popular for five decades. Not many bands can do that and do it in the way Aerosmith did. Aerosmith’s Peace Out tour will start September 2nd at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. With the tour ending on January 26th 2024 at the Bell Centre in Montreal Quebec. Aerosmith’s Peace Out Tour won’t be like KISS’s seemingly endless farewell tour. The band will keep it a short and sweet North American tour to end off their music careers.
The End Of An Era
Aerosmith’s departure from the music world will mark the start of the end of an era. An era in which they helped start in some ways. Soon bands like AC/DC, Guns N Roses, Metallica and more will do the same thing Aerosmith is doing. This is just the being of the end of classic rock bands playing live, or semi-live in some cases (see Mötley Crüe). Aerosmith would inspire countless musicians during their 50-plus-year career in the music world, and will probably continue to do that for some time. Aerosmith isn’t the first classic band or artist to call it quits as of late. As Ozzy Osbourne would do the same a few months earlier for health reasons. Aerosmith has many of the same reasons as Osbourne. As the band is getting older and frontman Steven Tyler has had some health issues as of late. Along with a pending lawsuit but that’s a story for a different time.
A Timeless Band
Aerosmith will likely continue to inspire young musicians for years to come. This is because of the band releasing so many timeless classics. Whether that be songs like Dream On, Walk This Way or Dude Looks Like A Lady, there is no shortage of music in Aerosmith’s catalogue. If you want to listen to a certain sub-genre of rock Aerosmith probably has a song or two in that genre. Aerosmith was able to remain popular in the music industry because they moved with the theme. They weren’t just a one glove fits all band. They adapted to the industry and played what they had to in an attempt to remain popular. This they did nearly perfectly. Although their post-2000 releases were mediocre at best. Nonetheless, any pre-2000 Aerosmith release has been pretty good. With some of their best years being the mid to late ’70s and late’80s. In their 50 years as a band, they have inspired other artists such as the previously mentioned Guns N Roses, Mötley Crüe, Skid Row, Warrant, L.A Guns and Slash to name a few. Aerosmith had everything and anything you were looking for, need a song about love? They got it, need a song about the color Pink? They also got you.
Is This Truly The End?
As is anything in the music world it’s hard to say if this is truly the end of Aerosmith. Will it be their last tour? Yes, but there is always the possibility of Aerosmith playing at a festival here or there if it makes sense of the band. As Joe Perry has his own solo project as well the Hollywood Vampires to do things with. Tyler has a pending lawsuit as previously mentioned. So it’s hard to definitively say if this is the true end of Aerosmith. Chances are this is the complete end. Which is unfortunate but I feel like fans of Aerosmith would rather see them call it quits on the band’s own accord rather than being forced to call it quits like Ozzy Osbourne. If Aerosmith does decide to continue and do shows here and there after the “Peace Out Tour” is sure they’ll have no problem selling out venues.
