For just the second time in UFC history, Dana White has put together two warriors that fit the criteria to fight for the BMF Title (baddest mofo title).  The first and only BMF Jorge Masvidal has retired and the next reign begins at UFC 291 on July 29th. Dustin “Diamond” Poirier will face Justin Gaethje for the celebratory belt. This is not the first time they have met in the octagon. In 2018, Poirier and Gaethje brawled it out until Poirier stopped him in the fourth round.

Must See TV

Poirier and Gaethje have accomplished a lot since their fight five years ago. Both have beaten Michael Chandler. Both were submitted to Oliveira and Khabib, with Poirier making it later in the fight than Gaethje in each loss. Poirier had a slightly tougher last fight and choked out Chandler, while Gaethje beat Rafael Fiziev on the judge’s scorecard by majority decision. As usual, they received Fight of the Night honors in those victories.

That is why they are fighting for the BMF strap. They do not disappoint when they step into the octagon. White respects that. It is about entertaining the fans and putting forth the best UFC product for the brand. This is must-see TV. Poirier and Gaethje have earned their status at the top of the division.

Expect Poirier and Gaethje to stand in there and trade punches. These two have never backed down to an opponent and Saturday night will be no different. Leg kicks will set up even more punches in this most likely very bloody event. Poirier has a clear advantage in the gas tank, which could be the biggest factor in the fight. Poirier will eventually get the better of the exchanges and become the new BMF title holder. Win or lose, both fighters will continue to have tremendous respect from the UFC fans. Performance of the Night is most probable. Fight of the Year…let’s hope!
