UFC Paris: Accor Arena; Paris, France

Sometimes when things start to go sideways, you can’t stop it from getting worse. And for a hot minute it started to look like Ciryl Gane might be the next UFC version of Scottie Pippen‘s Robin to Michael Jordan‘s Batman. Tearing up the division, but losing to the tip top of it. But through hard work and self reflection, Ciryl Gane is back on track.

Sergey Spivak is far from a pushover. But against the smooth as silk moving heavyweight, he got frustrated quickly. He wound up chasing Gane rather than cutting the cage off. And it didn’t help that when he got close, “Bon Gamin” stuffed both takedowns attempted.

Switching stances, and completely mixing up his attack the hometown 33-year old made things look easy. Gane chopped away at the Moldovian’s lead leg, ripped the body with percission, then went upstairs with devistating fashion. And with Spivak getting pieced up along the fence referee MARC GODDARD at 3:44 of round-two, had no choice but to waive the fight off for the TKO win.

Ciryl Gane Back On Track For The Belt

With Tom Aspinall sitting cageside wanting to fight Gane, Gane didn’t take the bait. Instead he is zeroing in on the winner of November’s UFC 295 winner between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic. Being both Aspinall and Gane are now just on one-fight winning streaks in the Top-Five; it’s hard to argue against that fight.

But if Gane if truly back, the same thing can be said when he tore his way up the rankings. He moves like a middleweight, and has the power of a heavyweight. So Aspinall with his come forward aggression might fall into some easily set traps. Gane stays off the centerline, counters, it’s goodnight Aspinall.

With Sergei Pavlovich set as the main event backup, another plan could be scrap that idea. And then use the destructive Russian against Gane in the co-main event, as a mini tournament for heavyweight supremacy. Especially since Gane leaves this fight without a mark on him. And that would be the biggest test for Gane right now. To see if he’s just Robin, or can be the Caped Crusader. The likelihood that fight goes into a third round is slim-to-none.
