With the highly anticipated NFL Draft finally underway here is a look at my  winners and losers from the 2019 first round.

Winners:

  • Kyler Murray

It doesn’t matter who you are, if you’re the #1 overall pick you win the draft. Murray is likely going to be the Cardinalsā€™ starting quarterback, which means Josh Rosen is unfortunately a draft day loser.

  • San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers have a solid team already and they just got even better, selecting arguably the best overall player in the draft class in Nick Bosa.

  • N’Keal Harry

The Patriots drafted arguably the top wide receiver in this 2019 class with the 32nd pick. Harry should instantly fill in as the Patriots’ outside receiver, the position they have been trying to fill since Randy Moss’ departure in 2010. Especially with Rob Gronkowski’s retirement, the Patriots should benefit from adding a big red zone target.

Losers:

  • Josh Rosen

Rosen came into the draft in a bad situation as the Cardinals were going to have a tough time passing on Kyler Murray with the first overall pick. As expected, the Cardinals did select Murray first overall, leaving Rosenā€™s role on the Cardinalā€™s in limbo. Rosen falls on the draft day loser spot for now.. But could easily become a draft day winner depending on what team colors heā€™s wearing at the start of the 2019 season.

  • Eli Manning

The Giantsā€™ selection of Daniel Jones at #6 likely means the Eli Manning era in New York is coming to an end. Eli, being the kind man he is, will likely mentor Jones to help him become the best football player he can be, ultimately leaving Eli without a job.

  • Dwayne Haskins

Getting picked in the first round canā€™t be so bad.. However, Haskins joins a Redskins team that already has two starting quarterbacks in Alex Smith (likely to miss 2019) and Case Keenum. Haskins will likely get his chance to start at some point this season, however the Giants passing on Haskins in favor of Daniel Jones makes Haskins a loser in this years draft. I believe Haskins has the talent to be a successful quarterback in the NFL, but the situation he fell into is less than ideal.

Being drafted in the first round, none of these players are actually ā€œlosersā€. Some players fell into better situations than others, but only time will tell who will find success in the NFL.
