This season couldn’t get any worse. On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Lakers faced off against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Coming off a loss to the Raptors, the Purple & Gold were looking to end their two-game losing streak.
Once again, the Lakers were outscored in the first quarter and never led in this game. Their three-point shooting was horrendous and couldn’t knock down their free throws against Minnesota.
Karl-Anthony Towns had 30 points, while Anthony Edwards bounces back and scores 27 as the Timberwolves win 124-104. Minnesota wins the season series 3-1 and improves to 41-30 on the year.
As for the Lakers, LeBron James had 19 points on 8-21 shooting. Russell Westbrook had 15 points, adding five assists and four rebounds in the losing effort. Meanwhile, Carmelo Anthony led the bench squad with 16 points.
The Lakers fall to 29-40, and the disastrous season continues.
My Thoughts
Things continue to get worse.
Every game, it’s difficult for me to find any bright spots with this team. There’s no effort given every single night, it feels like the team is just dragging themselves to the finish line.
I don’t know why LeBron continues to put himself out there every night. He might as well load manage and get ready for next season. There’s no point in getting into the play-in tournament, only to lose and get eliminated.
Instead of talking about the rest of this awful squad, let’s give props to this Timberwolves squad. They’re seventh in the Western Conference, but they have a shot at the sixth seed being two games behind the Denver Nuggets. They’re 9-1 in their last ten games, and their team chemistry is great.
Players That Stood Out to Me
Karl Anthony-Towns has been outstanding all year. His 24.9 points per game are the 13th best in the league. Maybe the Lakers should go pursue him and trade away Street Clothes Davis.
Anthony Edwards had a major dud against the Spurs but bounced back with his performance against the Lakers. Converting six threes on 11 attempts was impressive, and he’s a star in the making.
Patrick Beverley is a player every team needs. He’s a defensive presence, has a passion for the game, and isn’t afraid to say what’s on his mind.
No respect for Russell Westbrook and #Lakers. KAT’s reaction to Westbrook’s airball during the Wolves’ 20-point win over the Lakers is priceless. #NBA #LakeShow #Russ #Timberwolves

But, there’s one bright spot for this Lakers team. Mason Jones has been phenomenal for the South Bay Lakers this season. He’s averaging about 26 points a game and seven assists. Maybe he should get called up and given a chance to see what he can do.
Despite a poor shooting night team-wide, Mason Jones had a MONSTER game in the @SouthBayLakers‘ win last night.

Jones had 37 PTS on 13-21 FG (6-11 3P). It’s his second-highest points tally this season, and the fifth time he’s scored 30+ points.#LakeShow pic.twitter.com/eaULCQpuei
There’s not much to lose if you’re the Lakers. Give him a shot.
