Army football and Bryson Daily are putting themselves into a position to push for a playoff berth and a crack at a Heisman Trophy. After Bryson Daily’s record-breaking day for Army football, this team won’t be hiding from anyone anymore. At 7-0, they have a real chance of going undefeated.
I have not been sold on any Heisman frontrunner, until now. If Daily keeps playing like this I think he will have a shot.
He is playing Army brand football and absolutely dominating his opponents, leading his team to their first 7-0 start since 1996.
Daily leads all college rushers with 19 touchdowns. He is 3rd in the nation in rushing yards with 909.
The record for most rushing touchdowns in a collegiate season belongs to Barry Sanders with 37. With the way Daily is playing, I wouldn’t rule out him hitting the 30-touchdown mark. He has five games left to do it.
Passing the ball he has been impressive as well, with seven touchdowns, zero interceptions and 629-yards. Having another Heisman candidate playing in an Army uniform could be monumental for the sport. Army has produced three Heisman winners in 1945,1946 and 1954.
Army is currently ranked as the 23rd best team in the country with the possibility of working their way into the first 12-team playoff. Next week, Army will take on a struggling Air force team that only has one win on the year, setting the stage for another strong day for Daily.
Army’s biggest challenge will come against 12th-ranked Notre Dame on November 23rd, at Yankee Stadium.
What makes this situation even better is that Navy football finds themselves in a similar situation at 6-0.
The infamous Army Navy Game will take place on December 14th at Northwest Stadium in Washington DC, and has the potential to be one of the biggest games in the sports history.
