The Pittsburgh Steelers will have some more adversity to face in the 2019 season. They are already 0-2 to start the season after Pittsburgh lost to the New England Patriots on the road in Week 1 33-3 and lost to the Seattle Seahawks 28-26 at home in Week 2.

Ben Roethlisberger Out For Season

In that game, Ben Roethlisberger hurt his elbow in the first half and he did not return. The team announced on Monday that Roethlisberger will need season ending surgery on his throwing elbow.

Mason Rudolph will become the starting quarterback for this team for the rest of the season. It will be interesting to see who becomes the backup because Joshua Dobbs was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars last week.

Rudolph was a third-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. He completed 12-of-19 passes for 112 yards two touchdowns and one interception. Mason Rudolph rushed for seven yards on one carry.

Ben Roethlisberger completed 8-of-15 for 75 yards on Sunday. He finishes the season with 35-of-62 passes for 351 yards and one interception and also with seven yards rushing on one carry.

Roethlisberger led the league in passing yards last season with 5,129 yards. He completed 452-of-675 passes last season and threw for 34 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.

Ben Roethlisberger also rushed for 98 yards on 31 carries and three touchdowns.

He is currently 37 years old. If Mason Rudolph emerges big time, would Roethlisberger consider retirement?

He will be 38 years old when the season starts next season. Ben Roethlisberger has two more years left on his contract, but there’s a potential out on his contract after the 2020 season.

If that was his final NFL game, he is going to be a first ballot hall of famer. Roethlisberger completed 4651-of-7230 passes in his career for 56.545 yards 363 touchdowns and 191 interceptions. He has also rushed for 1,357 yards on 470 carries and 19 touchdowns.

Ben Roethlisberger has appeared in 218 games in his NFL career and has started in 216 of them.

The Pittsburgh Steelers next six games will be at the San Francisco 49ers (2-0), vs the Cincinnati Bengals (0-2) on Monday Night Football in Week 4, vs the Baltimore Ravens (2-0), at the Los Angeles Chargers (1-1) on Sunday Night Football in Week 6, vs the Miami Dolphins (0-2) on Monday Night Football in Week 8, and vs the Indianapolis Colts (1-1).

Pittsburgh will have a bye week in Week 7. This team will most likely not be a playoff team this season. The Steelers have not missed the playoffs two years in a row since 2012-2013. Would Pittsburgh move on from Head Coach Mike Tomlin after the season if this season continues to go south for them?

Ben Roethlisberger is probably the greatest quarterback in Pittsburgh Steelers history depending who you ask. Some people think it might be Terry Bradshaw, who won four Super Bowls with the franchise. Roethlisberger won two of them and went to three.
