Finally! This is what I love to see: CFB upsets. Week four was the most exciting week of this young season. Teams that had potential to be a contender get their hopes and dreams slashed. Teams that might not even be bowl bound coming out on top. You love to see it.
Michigan/Wisconsin
Utter domination on the part of Wisconsin. Michigan couldn’t stop the freight train known as Jonathan Taylor. Meanwhile Wisconsin’s defense shut out Michigan the whole first half with two interceptions and two fumbles to go along with that. Wisconsin’s ground game was effective scoring five touchdowns. I don’t believe Michigan deserves a ranking, but I suppose we will give them the benefit of the doubt.
UCF/Pitt
Having just barely lost to Penn State the weekend prior, Pitt were out for revenge and they got it by upsetting (previously) ranked 17th UCF by one point. For UCF, this spells disaster as some people claim they should be included in the SEC. After dominating their first three games, Pitt have put them in their place causing them to drop five positions to number 22. Hopefully, UCF will view this as a wake-up call and fix what happened week 4.
Utah/USC
Heart-breaker for the Utes as they looked to be one of the best teams in the Pac-12, and Lee Corso’s pick to play in the Natty. They are the south-conference rivals to Washington and Washington State, who themselves each have one conference loss. A close loss to USC have put the Utes in last place in the Pac-12 South. Utes drop nine spots to number 19, just ahead of worse-off Michigan.
Texas A&M/Auburn
Less of an upset, but equally devastating was Texas A&M’s loss to 8th ranked Auburn. A&M’s previous loss to Clemson did them no favors, but this has just dropped them further down the line, making it increasingly difficult to climb back up. Dropping another six spots to number 23, Texas A&M may be out of the rankings in two weeks time as they play Alabama.
The Melting Pot
Three teams previously un-ranked: USC, Kansas State and Michigan State hop into the Top-25 at 21, 24, and 25, respectively. Kansas will face off against Big 12 opponents Oklahoma State i. what will be a fun to watch engagement. USC and Washington, Belly Up Sports’ game of the week (week 5), will be a show-stopper as the two Pac-12 teams duke it out for a top spot. Michigan State looks to continue their rise against the Indiana Hoosiers.
Lots of fun this weekend as Week 5 of college football approaches. The conference teams will begin to fight it out for top stop from here on out. This, ladies and gentlemen, is where the battle for the National Championship truly begins, as we hope for more CFB upsets.
