Ever since Jay-Z helped take the team out of Neward, the team has been linked to countless stars, and have made trades that either set the franchise back a good five years or have had no true impact. With all the moves they have made in Brooklyn, they have still have not been to the conference finals since 2003. At least when they were in New Jersey, the expectations weren’t through the roof like they are now.
Which brings me to this rumor. According to multiple sources, James Harden wants to go to Brooklyn. That’s good for him, a round of applause. For those of you who may be thinking “Oh yeah he’s going to Brooklyn,” well Dwight Howard thought about going to Brooklyn at the height of his powers but that didn’t work out, did it? I do not believe that this trade will happen. If it were to occur, then it would not work out for Brooklyn.
Will They Ever Learn?
The last team that does NOT need to trade draft picks is this team. They only look good in comparison because the other basketball team in the state is just awful in a league of their own so I can’t just compare the Knicks and the Nets. The Picks they have given up in the past decade is just astounding. Those picks turned into Damian Lillard, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kyle Kuzma, Collin Sexton, and Draymond Green. Now come on. That is just unacceptable, that is Knick levels of disaster.
So you’re telling me Gerald Wallace, (out of prime) Kevin Garnett, (out of prime) Paul Pierce, and Troy F’n Murphy is worth all of that? The New Jersey/Brooklyn/Tristate Nets have not drafted an All-NBA player in thirty years and they have the nerve to try to acquire James Harden? But, that’s typical Brooklyn. All their best players of the last thirty years they had to trade for: Jason Kidd, Drazen Petrovic, Starbury, Vince Carter, and Joe Johnson. As great as those players were, none of them got Brooklyn a title.
Why Is Everyone Into Brooklyn: How This Harden Thing Won’t Work
So James Harden isn’t happy about his situation in Houston. Partly because he’s part of the reason why they’ve been losing. His offense is all-time great, but the way that he plays may not be suitable for a championship team with Harden being the best player. He’d be phenomenal if he sacrificed his scoring for a little bit more defense on a contender. It kind of feels like Houston has just been pretending to contend for the last few years. Brooklyn may not be it. After all, they don’t need a head coach.
How the hell would this trade work for Brooklyn? They would have to trade at least two or three players and at least three draft picks minimum. The Rockets need to get all the draft picks they can for Harden. He is an all-time great scorer. He probably could have dropped 40 a game this season if Westbrook was not on his team. If the trade were to happen, then Brooklyn would be the favorite out of the East without a doubt.
But…
If the trade does happen. There still would be a lot of unanswered questions such as team chemistry? Can they stay healthy, and who the hell will they fill the rest of the roster with? Kyrie Irving has a reputation for thinking he’s a great leader when he is clearly not. He did that to himself and he’s having that same problem now. Brooklyn will be an great offensive team but they also might be one of the worse defensive teams too. You can only do so much with three max guys and a ton of minimum salary guys.
They also have a new coach in Brooklyn in Steve Nash. He will have a hard time trying to coach KD and Kyrie already, mainly because they both have been banged up a bit the last few years and plus they have really thin skin. They kind of set the tone of how the era might go when Kyrie didn’t talk to teammates in his first season. Yeah Brooklyn made the playoffs this season but it was with a losing record and the previous coached got fired, most likely because KD and Kyrie didn’t like how he gets on everyone like a coach is supposed to do.
But… Yet Again
Harden should be very careful if he thinks about going to Brooklyn. First of all, why would Houston want to trade him there? He has three years left on his contract without a no trade clause. He could end up in Cleveland, Charlotte, or Detroit for all we know. I don’t understand catering to a trade demand if you don’t have a no trade clause. If I’m the organization trading the player, I’m not going to send him or her to wherever they want to go. They could do that in free agency. The NBA is a business and they need to get the best package available.
Houston could do what the Spurs did when they sent Kawhi to Toronto when he really wanted to go to the Clippers. Brooklyn looks like a disaster waiting to happen by either next season or the season after. I am getting the Clippers’ vibe from this team. Just like the Clippers, they made the playoffs as a low seed the year before with no superstars and lost early. Now they have stars and only get one round further and the coaching staff just doesn’t seem to care. The Clippers of the east.
