As we near NBA Free Agency, the Houston Rockets are looking to add another All-Star to their already talented roster. Since they don’t have the cap space to bring Butler in themselves, they will have to hope and pray that the 76er’s can get him back and not want a lot for him. Also, they will more than likely have to include a third team into the fold to cover Butler’s salary.
So in other words, the Rockets are gonna have to sacrifice a LOT for this to happen… one way or another.
Possible Trade Scenarios
Houston is probably one of the most stacked AND most complete teams in the NBA at this point…so I could see this trade being more of risk more than reward. With the Philadelphia 76ers‘ being a contender like the Rockets, I don’t see them taking anything less than a great rotational player.
If the Rockets are able to acquire Jimmy Butler for little to nothing, this will be great for them. They will get a two-way star that can defend pretty much anyone and can create his own shot. The Rockets can also run a small line up that includes Chris Paul, James Harden, and Butler.
How This Trade Can Help Houston
The Rockets were one of the best teams last season going into the postseason. They easily disposed of the Jazz and once again fell to the Warriors… except this time they were fully healthy and the Warriors weren’t. With the possible addition of Jimmy Butler, they’d have a dangerous starting 5 and a even better second team with Butler leading the charge. Jimmy Butler is an exceptional defender and he can create his own shot.
How This Trade Can Hurt The Rockets
Did I mention that the Rockets have two ball-dominant Superstars? Chris Paul and James Harden already each take turns controlling the floor and I don’t see how they can make room for a third person in Jimmy Butler. Butler is a very vocal person (that can be a good and bad thing). We’ve already seen how Butler can be if he doesn’t get his chance to control the tempo (2018-19 Timberwolves offseason).
