With WWE’s “Biggest Party of the Summer” just a few weeks away, the card shows a new beginning for the women’s divisions on both Raw and Smackdown Live. Becky Lynch and Bayley have put their feuds with Lacey Evans and Alexa Bliss in the rear-view mirror. Both women now have what they have been wanting for months. And that’s a match with a superstar who has not had an opportunity to shine in recent months.
Since the news broke that Ember Moon would be taking on Charlotte Flair this Tuesday on Smackdown Live, several fans online have begun to speculate about whether or not this match will lead to her being added to the Smackdown Live Women’s Championship match. Charlotte is featured on the promotional poster for SummerSlam. However, as of now, she is not booked for a match.
Here is a news flash for the entire WWE and WWE Universe: Charlotte Flair does not have to be included in every title match!
I will be the first to admit that Charlotte is unbelievably talented in the ring. As a nine-time Women’s Champion, she’s developed into one of the top superstars of the women’s division. With that being said, the buildup for SummerSlam is shorter than it was for Wrestlemania. Adding Charlotte to the Smackdown Women’s title match will seem as if WWE is panicking with the belief that the match is not strong enough on its own. It would also undermine the hard work that Bayley has done over the last few months as champion.
How Will WWE Add Charlotte Flair To The SummerSlam Card?
The question now becomes this – How does WWE add Charlotte to the SummerSlam card? If last Tuesday was any indication, a possible feud may be on the horizon between her and Liv Morgan. The end of their match hinted at the fact that Ms. Liv may be revamping her character. An interference during Charlotte and Ember Moon’s match on Tuesday will be a clear sign that Liv and The Queen are destined to collide at SummerSlam. The only problem that I foresee is that there may not be enough time for Liv to fully embrace her new character, whichever direction it goes in, before the pay-per-view.
The other SummerSlam possibility for Charlotte is to hold her own Open Challenge. Since she has such a strong presence in the women’s division, any lower-card or up-and-coming superstar would want to face Charlotte. This would also be the perfect slot to feature a NXT call-up, instead of waiting until Raw or Smackdown Live. The two biggest names that have been floating around for possible call-up are Bianca Belair and Shayna Baszler. Both women have displayed both power and strength during their time in NXT, and would be great competition for Charlotte.
There’s still plenty of time to book Charlotte’s opponent for SummerSlam. My hope is that WWE puts Charlotte in a position to help excel other women into the spotlight. And by doing so, not making the easy choice of adding her to another title match.
