Monday Night Raw comes to us live tonight from inside the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, NY!
The Beast is Champ
Is he back? I’m sure he’ll be on Monday Night Raw tonight but he’ll probably show up one other time before now and Summerslam. However, last night, Brock Lesnar cashed in his MITB contract, defeating Seth Rollins after he retained his title in a mixed tag only moments before.
This was a great moment, and WWE is all about putting on amazing moments that have people talking. People are talking, alright. Just not the way you want them to be. Now that Lesnar is champion once again, we’re right back to square one. WWE cannot afford another lengthy Lesnar title reign at this point. Especially when SummerSlam is so close to and is going to be compared to AEW’s All Out, which looks to be one of, if not the most hyped show of the year.
This is where WWE inserts Roman Reigns. At this point, the fans will cheer anyone who can take the belt off of Lesnar. If Reigns defeats Lesnar for the title, whether it be next month at Summerslam or next year at Wrestlemania, the fans will cheer. They’ll cheer not because of Reigns winning, but Lesnar losing. For years, WWE has shoved Lesnar vs Reigns down our throats. They’ve tried to make Reigns the guy before and it’s never worked. WWE wants that huge reaction to Reigns winning the belt, and that reaction will happen, but for the wrong reason.
At least Kofi Kingston is safe.
The Club is Back on Top
Last night at Extreme Rules, AJ Styles defeated Ricochet in one hell of a match. The pair have had a trio of solid matches the past two weeks. This is a match-up that I can’t get tired of. These are two of the best in the business right now and I hope that this rivalry continues until Summerslam.
AJ Styles heel turn has brought not only Gallows & Anderson back to relevancy, it’s made the United States title more relevant than it has been in almost five years. It’s what the Club does next is what needs to be focused on.
With Finn Balor losing his Intercontinental championship to Shinsuke Nakamura last night, that opens the door to a possible reunion between the four. WWE has teased this before, most notably at Summerslam 2016, before Balor went on to become the first ever Universal champion.
For those who don’t know. Finn Balor created Bullet Club along with a man named Bad Luck Fale. Balor would bring in several guys to the “club” but Karl Anderson was one of the first, then Luke Gallows would join later on. Right before Balor left New Japan to go to NXT, AJ Styles would debut in the promotion and take over Bullet Club after Balor.
Styles and Balor were never in the “club” at the same time, but here they are, in WWE together and the four have a chance to take over the WWE, just as they had done in Japan.
Nikki Cross & Alexa Bliss
Bayley overcame the odds at Extreme Rules by defeating both Cross & Bliss in a handicap match to retain her SmackDown Woman’s championship. Bliss is obviously using Cross to get her to the next level without lifting a finger. With the loss last night, several stories could come out of this.
They could potentially go back to SmackDown, and challenge Bayley again, which is unlikely. They could stay on Monday Night Raw and team up against the Man Becky Lynch for the Raw Woman’s title. Or Cross will see the evil ways of Bliss and stand up for herself. Cross has gotten a big push this past month and WWE should run with it. She’s solid in the ring and her gullible, crazy character is over with the fans.
Main roster Nikki Cross is very different than the Cross we met in NXT with Sanity. Sh was super crazy (haha), unpredictable, sadistic, and twisted in and out of the ring. That’s a character that can win a Woman’s championship at Wrestlemania. Whether WWE decides to switch it up or not, Cross is over and now is a great time to have her turn on Bliss (or vice versa) and start her singles career on Monday Night Raw.
