I just recently found out what a “Boomer” means in the social media landscape. Hey, Millennials, You’re not that cool…
Of course, I’ve seen meme’s, but never got it. Are you talking about Boomer Esiason? Are you referencing the song, “Boom, Boom” by whoever? I don’t know. I guess I’m a Boomer.
(I have been late to many a party.)
But the underlying tone and meaning to being called a “Boomer” is meant to be an insult.
Meaning old.
Meaning old is an insult.
(Fortunately, for myself and my brothers, I was raised to respect my elders. Hmm.)
I asked a gamer “friend”, where the nickname “Boomer” came from? To which he responded, “like, ‘Baby Boomers’, you know, being born anytime after 1990 or something”.
I disagreed.
The term “Baby Boomers” has always meant the 1960’s, 1970’s, to me.
When music meant more than politics. When politics had to deal with basic human rights.
It also meant that when, maybe, after making a bad decision, you didn’t have to end up on YouTube(c).
It was a simpler time.
And here’s a tip to all you “woke millennials”. Maybe stop sounding the same.
I swear, every time I hear two of you talk at the same time, I can’t tell you apart.
Consider “inflection” – it’s a tough word, I know. But basically what it means you have your own, individual voice. Everyone has one. So do you. Don’t fall into the “bruh” culture, because, you know what? It’ll (hopefully) be gone in six weeks.
Consider not judging someone based on their date of birth. Because, to be honest, you aren’t that cool – yet.
Grow. Learn. Stop thinking you’re “too cool for school”.
Stop thinking that just because you think you have a difference of opinion, makes you different.
You are not unique. You are a sheep being led to social media slaughter.
Do yourself a favor and watch ‘Fight Club’. I hardly doubt you consider Brad Fucking Pitt a “Boomer” – you want to be him.
I want to be him. It’d be fun, wouldn’t it?
But, by being a boomer, I don’t mean to come down on you. You are you. And I am me. Just remember, your words DO mean everything…about who you are, what you want, want you want to give or take, who you want to be.
And just based on your flimsy basis of what a “boomer” is – I’d so rather be a Boomer.
