Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm came into the picture in 2017 after Jacob Eason went down with a knee injury in the season opener vs Appalachian State. Fromm’s career at Georgia has been nothing but stellar. 2 SEC Championship appearances (2017 SEC Champs) and 1 national title appearance.
However, there are a few reasons why I feel Jake Fromm should stay at Georgia for his final season.
Too talented of a pool
This years quarterback class is very top heavy. Tua Tagovailoa seems to be the consensus number 1 quarterback in this draft. However, LSU quarterback Joe Burrow is not far behind. Alot of people, even myself, rate Burrow better than Tua. Once you add in Justin Herbert, Jalen Hurts, Shea Patterson, and possibly Jacob Eason, I’m not sold that Fromm will be highly regarded with these guys.
Also, you have to take into account the amount of teams that will be looking to draft a quarterback with a high pick. Outside of the Dolphins, Chargers, Titans, Buccaneers and possibly the Colts and Bears, there is no real need to get a top quarterback in 2020. The Colts shouldn’t be in any hurry to replace Brissett and who knows what Chicago do with Trubisky.
Fromm has had a down year
Sure Fromm has Georgia sitting at 7-1 and controlling their own playoff destiny, but he has not been as productive this year. Fromm threw for an average of 27 touchdowns his first two years as a starter. So far in 2019, he’s only accumulated 11 through 8 games. When Fromm and Georgia hosted South carolina, Fromm threw 51 times and only gained 295 yards. Sure, you can credit the talent around him for it being so low, but Fromm also threw 3 interceptions that game based on poor decisions.
Going back to LSU in 2018, Fromm only completed 47% of his passes for barely over 200 yards. I want more big time games where Fromm takes control.
Fromm still has unfinished business
Fromm is maybe a play or two away from being a national champion. He also could be back to back SEC Champions. With Georgia leading the SEC East and close to going back to Atlanta for a third time, he would be facing either Burrow and LSU or Tua and Alabama. While this task may be too much to handle for Georgia this year, next year Georgia could possibly be the favorites to be SEC Champs again. Both LSU and Alabama would be replacing key players which only benefits Georgia’s chances. Plus, being so close to winning a national title, I would assume it would be hard to leave without maximizing your chances to finally win it all.
Georgia simply isn’t ready for Jake Fromm to leave
As of right now, there seems to be no real answer to a Jake Fromm departure. Stetson Bennett has been QB2 this season and he looks nowhere close to what Georgia needs running this team. Maybe he grows in the offseason, but he has not passed the eye test so far in 2019. 4-star quarterback D’wan Mathis is still recovering from an offseason brain surgery. He should be back for next season, but we have yet to see him play.
