Not since Radar O’Reilly entered the OR at the 4077 and report to everyone that Col. Blake’s plane was shot down over the sea of Japan, has there ever been a tougher loss to swallow. Okay, maybe that’s a bit hyperbolic, but I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that the NFL losing Tom Coughlin and his fondness for beyond-punctuality is a loss that will take decades to recover from.

A Thing of The Past

Never again will we get a report of Tom Coughlin fining a player for showing up to a meeting on time and that player not understanding what he did wrong because there will never be another coach who fines people for being on time. Coughlin time isn’t like any other construct that you’ve come across such as regular time that we peons work with on a daily basis. Coughlin time strictly states that if you’re on-time, then you’re late. Makes sense right. You see, Tom Coughlin didn’t win those two Super Bowls over the Patriots because he outcoached them and had his players jacked up on Mt. Dew. It was because he gained an extra week and a half of time on them throughout the year by starting every meeting and practice 10 minutes earlier than they were supposed too.

One of a Kind

Sure, you could say that Coughlin leaves a black mark on the franchise that he was the first coach for due to fining his own players hundreds of thousands of dollars for having the audacity to seek other medical treatments rather than the Jaguars own medical staff, which have been rescinded. But, the bigger black mark is going to be that there isn’t ever going to be another old white guy who turns into Western Kentucky’s mascot when the thermostat gets lower than 62 degrees while also losing his shit when someone is only a mere 5 minutes early. Mike Zimmer can turn into Red Hulk on a whim, but he’s pretty normal about not caring if his players show up on time.

All I could say is Tom Coughlin, you will be missed.
