Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! This is one of rare off-weeks for the PGA Tour, so sit back, relax, and eat. Then… eat some more, take a break to watch football, and you know what? Eat. But before we sit at the dinner table, let’s have a recap of the 2020 RSM Classic.
Hopefully you can use some of the information in this recap or the preview to bridge the conversation between football and politics. I do have to warn you. Your family will probably look at you weird for thinking about golf instead of football (It’s not so bad, I deal with it every Sunday).
So what do you say, shall we get into the Sunday recap of the 2020 RSM Classic? Alright, let’s go.
Sunday at the 2020 RSM Classic
2014 Champion Robert Streb entered Sunday’s final round with a three-stroke lead. After shooting two-under in the front nine, it looked like Streb was going to be the first two-champion in the tournaments history. The only problem? While he stayed close to even par, the players around him went low.
Zach Johnson gained ground early with a birdie on hole two, but took himself out of contention with a triple-bogey on the seventh.
Then came Cameron Tringale. Tringale rocketed to a share of the lead on the back nine after finishing the front nine with five straight birdies. He would finish with a par on the 18th to shoot an eight-under round and finish at eighteen-under for the tournament.
2015 Champion Kevin Kisner started the day at twelve-under par and wouldn’t be there long. Starting with a birdie on hole two and three, Kisner wouldn’t slow down all day. Finishing the front nine at four-under par, he would go on to add three more birdies on the back, finishing the tournament at nineteen-under par.
But Streb wasn’t done yet. Down one on the 17th tee, Streb hits a great shot to 11-feet and makes the birdie putt to tie the lead going to the 18th tee. A par on the 18th results in a playoff between Streb and Kisner.
This playoff is the sixth playoff in the event’s 11-year history and guarantees a two-time winner of the event. After both players par the first playoff hole, Streb knocks his approach on the second playoff hole to about a foot, leading to his second career win and second win at the RSM Classic.
