The drama-filled and chaotic Bryan Harsin era at Auburn is officially over. Auburn named Cadillac Williams as its interim coach for the remainder of the season, which, in my opinion, is one of the most on-brand moves they could’ve made. Auburn’s trip to Mississippi State last Saturday ended up in an overtime heartbreaker for the Tigers, but the real focus is, although they lost, we’re all still trying to reel in what we watched. Where did this Auburn team even come from? We haven’t seen a fight like that from this squad all season. Until now, it’s been the usual ‘Auburn being Auburn’ with a mediocre performance, questionable play-calling, and a lot of “Give Tank the ball!” blowing up on Twitter.
Give the ball to Tank Bigsby 40 times today if you want to win, Auburn

That’s the Auburn offense I remember. Not making a single effort to get the ball in Tank Bigsby’s hands.

The Rollercoaster…
I don’t know what happened after the Penn State game, but since then, it’s been a rollercoaster watching Auburn have the potential to win games but genuinely not even trying to. I had the theory that Harsin gave up and wanted out of there, which may not be a farfetched idea if we’re being honest. Fast forward to Cadillac’s debut last Saturday, Auburn hit the field with a new attitude and took Mississippi State to overtime for an (almost) comeback victory. Auburn took the L but did they really…
Moral Victory Accepted
I’m not one for moral victories, but I’m giving Auburn a moral victory on this one. Those boys showed UP and showed OUT. Instead of the usual throwing in of the towel at halftime and giving up leads for absolutely no reason, Auburn fought. For the first time this season, we saw an Auburn team that cared to win a football game.
Cadillac changed the entire infrastructure and hyped a fanbase that had given up on football season in just one week as head coach.
Jimbo Isn’t Worried
“You can’t change drastically. You say change, well, we’ve got three practices, four practices a week. How much you really going to change?” Fisher said. “You could put some new schemes in like you do for a game, but you can’t change, overall. They’re going to be staying very similar to what they did, but they’ll have a few new wrinkles.”
Jimbo Fisher on Cadillac’s debut
I’m well aware you can’t completely flip a program overnight, and Auburn will have its hands full with Texas A&M. But, if they come out and put on a show like they did last weekend, they’ll be next on the list of teams embarrassing Jimbo Fisher. I won’t be mad seeing Cadillac lead Auburn to a win on his Jordan-Hare debut as head coach, and I’ll never be mad to see Jimbo Fisher lose after being overconfident and cocky.
