Bruins Linus Ullmark Is Having a Career Season
Who would have thought the Boston Bruins would be leading the NHL this season in points with 76 thus far? New head coach Jim Montgomery has had a great impact on the team, especially the guys that have been there, like Captain Patrice Bergeron, and Brad Marchand. Now let’s shift gears into talking about the goaltending that has been great even into the new year. Bruins Linus Ullmark has been remarkable this 2022-23 campaign with a 24-2-1 W-L-OTL, 1.89 Goals Against Average, with a .937 save percentage, also adding two shutouts. Ullmark signed with the Bruins two offseasons ago from the Buffalo Sabres. What a difference a season makes from his first to his second in Boston. He signed a 4-year, $20 million contract with Boston a couple of seasons ago, and some people wondered why because Tuukka Rask was still the team’s main goaltender at the time.
Jeremy Swayman Has Embraced the Number Two Role Well Behind Ullmark
Bruins backup goaltender Jeremy Swayman has done a stellar job being the backup to starter Linus Ullmark this season. A fourth-round pick by the Bruins back in 2017, he had been labeled as the future goaltender in Boston, but the team had other plans for him. Swayman attended the University Of Maine from 2017-20, where he won the Hobey Baker Award, which is given to the best college men’s hockey player in the nation. For a couple of seasons, he spent time in the American Hockey League with the Providence Bruins, where he dominated. He posted a 1.99 Goals Against Average in two seasons and went 11-3 in the minors. Moving onto this season where his record stands at 11-3-3, 2.27 GAA, .916 save percentage. Swayman has been solid throughout this season. Look for the Bruins down the stretch to rest Ullmark and have him play more.
Swayman and Ullmark Best Tandem in the League?
Some may say that Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark are the best goalie tandem in the NHL, and others may think elsewhere. The combined record for both of them is 36-5-4, which is very impressive for the goaltending department. From the post-game hugs between both of them to great performances in the creases and having the teams back, and being great friends as well. Not often do you see a team like Boston dominating in all areas of hockey and especially between the nets. As long as both men keep playing at a high level, look for Boston to go deep and far into the Stanley Cup playoffs in the near future.
