Last week Rickie Fowler finally got it done and won in Detroit, his first win since 2019. This week PGA tour will stay in the Midwest and head to TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois. Defending champion J.T. Poston will be in the field this week. He won last year with a score of -21. With only a few spots up for grabs for the approaching British Open, we should see a lot of names in contention come Sunday. Here is everything you need to know for the 2023 John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run.

The Course

TPC Deere Run has played fairly consistent over the years. Ten of the last eleven winning scores have been within two strokes of -20 (262-266), with the exception of Michael Kim (-27) in 2018.

Expect the winner’s total to be more of the same, around -22.

The toughest holes for the field last year were nine and 18. Nine is a 503-yard par-4 and it produced 118 bogeys last year, second most on the course. 18 is another long par-4, playing around 475 yards. It played as the hardest hole last year producing 102 bogeys along with a brutal 21 doubles.

The long par-3 seventh along with the par-4 15th also played difficult for the field last year. We will see plenty of birdies once again but keep an eye out for these trouble holes. Overall, TPC Deere Run will play fairly similar to Detroit Golf Club last week in terms of scoring.

The Field

Take a look at the full field and betting odds here.

We will only get to see nine of the world’s top 50, mainly due to the British Open in two weeks at Royal Liverpool. However, there are a few spots up for grabs this week, so expect plenty of guys to have a chance over the weekend.

One of the favorites this week is Cam Young. Cam hasn’t played his best golf as of late, but he looks to turn things around this week in preparation for the Open.

Denny McCarthy and Russell Henley also come in as favorites with Young. Looking for his first win on tour, McCarthy finished T-7 at the Travelers earlier this month, and T-20 at the US Open a week before. McCarthy also lost in a playoff at the Memorial in May. He is set to play at Royal Liverpool, as is Russell Henley. Henley has one win this year back in November and he has finished top 20 in eight of his last nine starts, including the Master’s and the US Open. Both of these guys have a great chance to get it done this week.

Players to Watch

Adam Hadwin has had a solid season thus far. He lost in a playoff with Rickie Fowler and Collin Morikawa at last week’s Rocket Mortgage and has made the cut in four of his last five events. Hadwin has not yet qualified for the Open, so expect him to come out with a sense of urgency this week as he looks for his second win on tour.

Taylor Moore is also looking for his second win on tour coming off of a T-4 in the Rocket Mortgage last week. Moore is seventh on tour this year putting inside of ten feet, and 32nd in total strokes gained. If he can continue his solid play, look for him to have a chance on Sunday.

Lucas Glover won here in 2021 with a winning score of 265 (-19), and he also finished T-4 last week in Detroit. He is another guy we could see Sunday if he can continue striking the ball well.

Eric Cole has made six of his last seven cuts, including a T-15 at the PGA Championship and a T-6 at the RBC Canadian Open. He ranks 25th on tour this year in total strokes gained, and 17th in strokes gained putting. He is also looking for a spot in the Open.

What to Expect

Anything can happen this week at TPC Deere Run. With a somewhat weaker field, we could very well see a first-time tour winner. Between the Open and the FedExCup race heating up, we will see plenty of aggressive approaches to the course. Expect plenty of guys to be in contention down the stretch on Sunday.
