At 9 a.m. on Thursday, October 12, the Ottawa Senators posted a teaser clip on social media that led many fans to speculate on its relevance. With no further context, the one thing that was clear was that CIBC was somehow involved. The main two possibilities being discussed by fans were the possibilities of the team’s home arena being re-named, or a jersey sponsor. The Ottawa Senators’ home arena has been known as the Canadian Tire Center since June 2013. The pair signed a 10-year agreement. No announcement has been made in regards to the arena’s name sponsor as of yet. The next possibility of the jersey sponsor turned out to be the winning prediction.

It has since been revealed that the team will be introducing a sponsorship deal for the team’s home jerseys. It has been announced that CIBC will be the team’s first-ever jersey sponsor.
The NHL introduced jersey sponsors last season and most teams went ahead with this opportunity. This would leave the Senators as one of the final teams without a jersey sponsor last season. No announcement has been made about the away jerseys as of yet.
CIBC Becomes the Team’s Jersey Sponsor
This sponsorship extends to more than just the jerseys as CIBC will become a prominent member of the Canadian Tire Center. The “Club Red” dining room will be rebranded to “Club CIBC” such as other brandings throughout the arena and its surroundings. CIBC has jointly announced that they will be donating $ 500,000 to the Ottawa Senators Community Foundation.
CIBC is one of Canada’s largest banks. Their first-ever location was opened in Ottawa in 1874, on Sparks Street. This location is still open to this day.
This marks the first transaction completed by Cyril Leeder during his second tenure with the Ottawa Senators.
