With myself being a father of three young boys in public school, I knew it was only a matter of time before I would get asked questions about Fortnite. However, it didn’t take just those questions to bring me back looking as to what was so fun about the game. Over the last week, the creators of Fortnite have brought three new games to the market. Some even are calling it the “New Era of Fortnite” and Fortnite 2. These new releases are the perfect reasons why you shouldn’t sleep on Fortnite especially if you have in the past.

More Than Just A Battle Royal

The three new games released by Epic Games, coexist within the Fortnite realms. Those are Rocket Racing, Fortnite Festival, and my personal favorite Lego Fortnite. All separate games within the Fortnite universe.

So, now if you were never originally a fan of the Battle Royal plus the ability to build structures. Let’s face it some people can’t build as well, and that can be frustrating when you want to be good at the game. I mean I should know, I still haven’t finished better than third, in a battle royal. I know if I eventually learn to grasp that concept I might have a chance of winning once or twice. Back when the game launched I was a lot more irrationally angry at not being good at video games, now I just enjoy playing. Even more so now that I have more than one game on one “install” to play and there all enjoyable. Plus it was free to download.

But, Why Really?

Well, I’ll do this as quickly as possible because chances are if you’re like me then I know it’s easy to lose interest in things. That’s the first and biggest reason for me downloading and even writing this piece. I can jump from a Battle Royal, racing, jamming out to a top music hit, or a customizable Lego Survivor world.

I never really got into Rockband, but I did play my fair hair of Guitar Hero. I loved the concept of that game. So, to have that concept in a sense back among the rotation of top musical hits is awesome. It’s fun, and honestly competitive just like the seven or eight-year-old me remembered. Plus the developers recently confirmed that eventually if you held onto those Rockband-specific controllers you’ll be able to use them again! It’s possible to be a rock star in your living room once again!

Epic’s choice to reach out and partner with Rocket League was a great decision for them both. This Rocket Racing game is super competitive and really fun. The ability to “rocket drift” and fly over obstacles works. Plus it gives you one more way to use any purchased cars you may have bought in Rocket League. More bang for the buck so to say.

Lego Fortnite.

It is the original reason, that I even re-downloaded the Fortnite software. I won’t lie to you. I hated for a long time the idea of the game. Mainly because I wasn’t very good at it, and still aren’t super great. However I have kids now, and along with hanging out with them and their mom. Video games are another thing I love spending time partaking in, so when my seven-year-old son got even more into building Lego this allowed me to explore a new way for me and my boys to hang out.

Plus I was always interested in Minecraft’s game concept. I guess I am just a spoiled gamer and enjoy the “up-to-date graphics” of next-gen gaming consoles. So, the idea of becoming a Lego person and having to explore this diverse world, and survive the challenges grabbed my attention. This game has a lot of similarities in a sense to Minecraft don’t get me wrong.

The world landscape though is what brought me into the universe to begin with, it’s huge! With so many different weather effects based on the area you are exploring, and a rotating day/night shift. The work was put into this, and it shows in my opinion. I know some purest want Lego trees and Lego everything basically but I love how Epic created an “open world” with so much detail.

The Wrap Up

If you are looking for a free-to-download game Fortnite still isn’t completely free to play but it can be if you want it to be. Just don’t expect the same amount of rewards as those who fork up the money for the Battle Pass, but I still believe anyone could have a fun time just gaming. You can create your own friends/family Lego Village and explore a super detailed world to find resources. Go into a one-hundred-player battle royal. Tear through a custom-made race track with rocket-powered cars, or jam out to some of the newest musical hits. Don’t sleep on Fortnite, even if you are an “elder gamer” there is still potential for fun there
