Some NHL teams are surging in January and hoping to make a playoff run. They are playing well and garnering some attention this month ahead of the trade deadline and break.
The second half of the NHL season is in full swing ahead of the upcoming trade deadline and playoff race. Some teams are surging forward and others have seen a decline. Here are some of the surging teams in January to watch in the second half of the season.
Surging Teams In January
Standard codeThe Canadiens are surging forward with their young core who are taking big strides forward and are fun to watch. They are one of the hottest teams in the NHL with a 10-2-1 record since December 17th. This team started the first two months of the season at the bottom of the standings and now they are two points out of a playoff spot with games in hand.
Another surging team is the Colorado Avalanche. They are ten games above. 500, in a good position for the first wild card in the Western Conference. It’s a big deal because the Avalanche started the season slow. They have an amazing offense with one of the best top lines in the NHL. Also, Colorado’s goalie tandem is incredible and has made all the difference for them.
The Vegas Golden Knights are another Western Conference powerhouse that has remained a contender all season. They have a talented roster that makes key plays and scores many goals. Also, they are convincingly beating teams, especially in their division. The Golden Knights are expected to make moves to shore up their amazing roster.
Other Teams to Watch
The Dallas Stars are once again proving to be one of the hottest teams in the NHL as they continue to win. They have multiple lines capable of putting pucks in the net and excellent roster depth. Also, their goal-tending has been amazing in January. The Stars remain contenders in the competitive Central division and have some good division rivals.
The Winnipeg Jets are another team that continues to surge this season as they lead the Central Division. Some other teams playing well include the New York Rangers, Washington Capital, and Florida Panthers.
