It’s been over a week since the Hornets have played basketball and I’m starting to pace the floor. The Wizards and Hornets game was postponed Wednesday night because COVID continues to spread through the Wizards locker room. The virus has spread faster than Mcdonald’s bags full of money on the campus of Tennessee. However, good news seems to be on the Hornets’ horizon, as Cody Zeller looks to make his return.
While the Hornets look to refocus and end their three game losing streak, the team has received good news this week. Starting center Cody Zeller is trending toward making his return Friday night against the Chicago Bulls. The Hornets PR team released this statement on Twitter on Thursday:
INJURY REPORT: @hornets vs CHI 1/22
— Charlotte Hornets PR (@HornetsPR) January 21, 2021
Cody Zeller (left hand fracture) is PROBABLE #AllFly
This is huge news for a team in desperate need of another body to play in the paint. Zeller averaged 8 points and 6 rebounds in last year’s shortened season. He will also bring just another body for the team to have on the floor. Recently P.J. Washington and Gordon Hayward have played a little banged up.
In this three game losing streak, the Hornets have allowed 33 offensive rebounds. That number needs and should go down with the return of Cody Zeller. Zeller’s return will also give Washington a chance to play his more natural position at power forward even though Washington has played great minutes at the center position this season. The Hornets will be at full force for the first time since opening night.
Honestly, it has been too long since I’ve seen the buzz boys on the court. I’m just ready to see the purple and teal back on the floor again. Cody Zeller making his return is just icing on the cake of a Friday night full of Charlotte Hornets basketball.
