New Year’s Resolutions

At the end of every year, we all come up with a resolution for the upcoming year. This is a tradition that everyone partakes in, even players in the NFL, believe it or not. Since they have a lot going on, I have a suggested NFL New Year’s resolution for several players and organizations around the league.

Tom Brady’s – Just Give It Up

Tom Brady – NFL Quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

It is hard to see the GOAT come back for another year and do so poorly. We all were so happy to hear Tom Brady finally give it up and retire at the end of the 2021-22 season. Some of us were disappointed to hear that he would be returning for another year in the NFL. Probably not as disappointed as the guy who bought his last touchdown ball for $518,000, but we were disappointed nevertheless.

Tom Brady has cemented himself as the greatest quarterback to ever play the game. It is hard to debate that when he has seven Super Bowl rings. When he announced that he would retire, after a hard fight in the playoffs, it seemed mutually respected. Tom has been in the NFL for 23 seasons and, though he is still going strong, it is time for him to step away. It was too much for him to retire last year, so he came back for another go-around.

My suggestion to Tom Brady for his NFL New Year’s resolution would be to just call it quits. Give it up, Tom! We respect you and want to see you leave. Not all of us like you, but we do respect you and would respect you more if you would finally just give it up.

Baker Mayfield’s – No More Bashing

Baker Mayfield – NFL Quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams

The story of Baker Mayfield’s football career is amazing. He walked on at Texas Tech and got to the point of starting. When things weren’t working out for him there, he left and walked on at Oklahoma. He then took the starting position right away and went on to win the Heisman Trophy. On top of that, Mayfield became the first overall draft pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. This is a story of someone who accomplished a lot with hard work.

Most of us love hearing how Baker got to where he is at today and commend him for it. Those who don’t like Baker usually have the same reason in mind. He likes to bash his former teams, or in some cases his current team.

When Baker played at Oklahoma, he made a rivalry between himself and Texas Tech, his former team. Later on in his career, Baker was traded over to the Carolina Panthers from the Cleveland Browns. Baker had t-shirts and other memorabilia made that was a bit of a cut-down of the Browns. So far, I haven’t heard of his Carolina Panthers bashing, but it wouldn’t surprise many if he did.

The way that Mayfield does this little attack on all of those who don’t treat him fairly is a trait that many don’t appreciate. It makes him look bad in the eyes of many around. So, with that said, I recommend that Baker’s NFL New Year’s resolution could be no more bashing. Also, no bashing your head off of players’ helmets… that’s not a good look either.

Dallas Cowboys – No More Hype

Dallas Cowboys Team Huddle

This one is going out to the entire Dallas Cowboys team, organization and fanbase.

Every year, we hear the hype around the Dallas Cowboys. They make a big offseason move that makes them so much better this season. Maybe one of the players signs a big contract or they get a new coach. Whatever the hype is about, it is usually followed by the expectations of a Super Bowl. The Cowboys and their fans are always expecting way too much out of their upcoming season.

The suggested NFL New Year’s resolution for this entire team, organization, and fanbase is to just stop the hype. Don’t post stuff on social media about how good you are. No more headlines about how good the first half of the season is. Just let the season play out to the end. We know that you aren’t winning the Super Bowl this year, not next year, and not the year after that. So, just stop and save us all the headache.

Patrick Mahomes – Please Stop

Patrick Mahomes – NFL Quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs

We all know Patrick Mahomes is one of the most exciting NFL quarterbacks to have ever played the game. He has shown us the no-look pass, levitating pass and so much more with all of the talents that he possesses. Every year it seems that he has the best odds to win the MVP award.

I will keep this one short and sweet for Mahomes. The NFL New Year’s resolution suggestion for Mahomes this year would be that you stop dominating so much. You are not expected to stop winning or being a great quarterback. Instead of making up a new trick play on the spot, maybe you could just throw the ball like a normal good quarterback. And instead of throwing for 9 million yards and 700 touchdowns every year, maybe just throw a number that a human being could actually reach.

The main reason I ask this of Mahomes is that we would like to leave him out of the MVP talk for one year. There are other players that are deserving of the award, but they are compared to Patrick Mahomes, and that just isn’t fair.

Los Angeles Teams – Get Your Own Stadium

SoFi Stadium – Home of the LA Rams and LA Chargers

Another New Year’s resolution suggestion, but this one goes out to two different organizations. This is one that should not have to be explained. A New Year’s resolution suggestion to the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers would be to get your own stadium.

I know NFL stadiums are getting more and more expensive, especially on the West Coast. But let’s be honest with this situation, can we? You both have enough money to build your own stadium, but it is also more work for scheduling now. Both teams can’t have a home game in the same week. This has to be a little hectic for scheduling purposes. How about the issue that when these teams play each other, we don’t know who to call the home team?

Maybe the suggestion should be to get your own city, but that may be too much to ask.
