Cam Newton did not play this past Sunday for the Carolina Panthers on the road against the Arizona Cardinals. Kyle Allen started in his place and he is 19-of-26 passes for 261 yards and four touchdowns in a 38-20 win on the road against Arizona. Kyle Allen to start again this week for the Carolina Panthers.
Carolina looked really good on the offensive side of the ball even though the Cardinals don’t have a really good defense. The Panthers have offensive weapons. Christian McCaffrey was able to have a bounce-back game with 153 yards rushing on 24 carries and a touchdown. He also caught three passes for 35 yards receiving.
D.J. Moore is good. He only had one catch but it was for a 52-yard touchdown. Curtis Samuel caught five passes for 53 yards receiving and a touchdown. Greg Olsen caught six passes for 75 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
This was the best the offense has looked in the first three games of the regular season. Kyle Allen is only 23 years old. The last two games Carolina has won, Allen was the starting quarterback for both of them.
He will be the starting quarterback in Week 4 at the Houston Texans (2-1). According to Head Coach Ron Rivera, Cam Newton doesn’t have a timetable for his return.
Had they lost again yesterday, would Riverboat Ron have said this in his press conference? I don’t think he would have to be honest. Newton has struggled to get the ball down the field and he has been very inaccurate.
Maybe with Allen as the starting quarterback for the time being, they might be able to get back into the playoff picture. The offense looks smoother for now and Houston does not have a very good secondary.
The Panthers will have two more games after this week before a bye week in Week 7. Carolina will host the Jacksonville Jaguars (1-2) in Week 5 and then they will play in London for Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-2) and the Carolina Panthers will be the road team in that game.
If Carolina continues to win because of Kyle Allen, the Panthers might have found their quarterback for the future. They would most likely move on from Cam Newton after the season and this would also mean that rookie quarterback Will Grier would not get a look. Kyle Allen to start again this week for the Carolina Panthers.
