The main points of discussion were between Georgia and Alabama and where do you put Minnesota and Baylor, both undefeated.
It has been made very clear that Georgia’s early loss to South Carolina has been forgotten. Most importantly, its been made clear that when you lose is also important. However, I feel loss-recency was the number one reason why Alabama falls behind Georgia. It also helps that Georgia has two wins vs top 10 teams and plays 12th ranked Auburn this weekend. Alabama lost their biggest game of the season. Furthermore, I dont want to take away how bad of a loss Georgia has at home to USCar. South Carolina is a really bad football team. Alabama’s loss at home to LSU is obviously a huge quality loss, it all just has to do with timing. Both teams still have a direct route to the playoffs (Georgia – 21%, Alabama – 41%). However, Auburn still has a chance to play spoiler to both teams and end their playoff hopes.
Minnesota pulled off their biggest win of the season. The Golden Gophers started off the season really slow. However, during the month of October, they began blowing teams out the water. They have scored nearly four times as to what their opponents have scored. With upcoming games against Iowa and Wisconsin, Minnesota may eventually get the respect they deserve.
Baylor on the other hand, is a really bad undefeated team. Baylor can finish the season 13-0, beating Oklahoma twice, and I still wouldn’t put them in top 4. Idk how anyone could. Struggling to beat Rice, Iowa State, Texas Tech and TCU don’t scream top 4 status. There is a reason as to why they won and still fell in the rankings. TCU and Baylor were tied at 9 going into overtime. They ended up needing three overtimes to sort out the victor. Even winning potentially against Oklahoma twice doesn’t tell me much. Oklahoma has shown they can play poorly against average teams. Hence why they beat Iowa State and still fell to 10, behind a Penn State team that just loss.
With a few more weeks until conference championship weekend, I don’t expect much shakeup until the final ranking reveal.
