Last Sunday night, January the 26th, was the season finale of one of the best shows on television, Shameless. There are not many things better than a season finale for any show as the best is always saved for last right? They leave you with some cliff hanger that makes you flip out cause it may take months before you ever see another episode. I mean who can forget the end of season three in Sons of Anarchy? Jax son gets kidnapped, and it left you with that pit in your stomach. You could not wait to see how he got him back. Cause you knew he would. But would he be alive? (he was and he did).
Shameless season ends
Shameless failed to me in this aspect. I mean don’t get me wrong it was a great show, but it was not a season-ending show. Not when you are headed into your last season. Sure Debbie is running out the back door from the police in classic Gallagher style. Ian gets married to Micky finally but without much of hitch. I mean sure Mickey’s dad is trying to kill him, but when is he not? Liam, the only real smart one of the family, ended on a good note as well. He gets a car for Ian’s wedding out of Frank and gets Frank to attend the wedding. But that’s it? Not that I wanted something to happen to him or anything, but a trip to jail, led away in a squad car or something?
I thought they had something going when Lip seemed he had lost everything again and hit the bar at the wedding. If we had seen him on the street up against a wall, lit as can be, looking like hell as the sun is about to rise. And that is the last thing we see of him this episode. Boom, now you have something. But no we get Lip drinking then within one scene he is at the door of his friend and sponsor to go to a meeting, then by the end, he has his family back and they are fixing their new place. Come on, really? At least let us see it worked out next time, not now. leave me hanging!
What about the star of the show, Frank? Probably one of the most disappointing misses of the night. Sure, he was classic Frank. He did not want to go to his son’s wedding, did not contribute anything to the family or the wedding. Let’s not forget he is basically squatting in a house of a crazy woman who wants him dead. But that is classic Frank, he even ends up getting some in the bathroom at the wedding from another crazy lady that owed the place. Classic Frank, I say. They have left seasons on much better cliffs than this, Why was he not lying in the hospital, or in a ditch somewhere? You had the world at your disposal for his season-ending. It was Frank!
Even Veronica and Kevin had a good ending. These guys get into so much different stuff that leaving us with something would have been an easy target. But no, Kevin gives Veronica a ring he had saved for, and the new business venture, a keg lifting gym, that is actually working out. What about Veronica finds out something about Kevin that she can’t forgive? She leaves with the kids and you don’t know anything more. See with these two characters it would have been easy.
It was a good episode as it was a wedding that we all knew had to come. But when you are ending the series the next season, a good cliff hanger for us all to hang on to one last time would have been nice.
Which Gallagher are you?
It is just a fact, we all have at least one of the Gallagher’s in each of us in some way, true Google it. The question is, which Gallagher are you most alike. And for this, we can add the skank that left he show, Fiona if that is you of course.

I think one could even make a point that we all have a little of all of them in us in some way. Who does not have some sort of an addicted personality, or the ability to lie and steal when needed. They work hard and they work for each other which is something they can be commended on. I think I land somewhere in the Lip and Kevin category. I know Kevin is not a Gallagher but he is relatable.
Many think in order to be like a Gallagher you must not have a heart. Not true, you can see a bit of love in all of them, especially toward each other. They don’t seem to have mercy on anyone else if attacked in any way, but they do have a caring side to each of them. Hell, I will even do something and say, I just Gallaghered that. In any case, there is a little in us all.
Final Season
The next season will be the final season of Shameless. I know it is a shame to have to say that. yet it is time I guess as the cast must be tired of the characters by now. Although they live the type of lives and there are enough of them that the storylines would be endless. In fact, odds would say at least one of them lands some sort of spin-off, right? The show about this crazy family of siblings that live on their own. Visited every now and then by a father that is drunk and only looks out for one, himself, will be no more.
We watched Liam grow up and well, all of them grew up right before our eyes. We laughed, we cried, we went through all of hard time as we were one of them. It is the sign of a great show, one that can take you in and make you apart of it. Despite the lackluster season-ending of shameless this season, I along with many others will be waiting to see the final season and what the future has for the Gallagher family.
