Jonquel Jones helped the Connecticut Sun reach the WNBA Finals last season. This season, she will not play due to the coronavirus concerns. Connecticut will miss her 14.6 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game. Also, they will lose her ability to control the paint in the offensive and defensive end. With Jones not playing, here are two rookies that could come in and help the Sun.

Beatrice Mompremier

Beatrice Mompremier was selected No. 20 in the WNBA Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks. The Sparks choose to go with Marie Gulich and Kristine Anigwe, so Mompremier was waived.

Mompremier could step in and fill the void for this season while Jones is out. She averaged 16.8 PPG and 9.8 RPG at Miami this past year. Like Jones, Mompremeier can score in the post, rebound, and play solid interior defense. The former Miami Hurricane averaged 7.7 defensive rebounds in the last two years. Mompremier was a double-digit queen at Miami with 34 double-doubles. With her skill set, Mompremier would be the perfect replacement for Jones this year.

Kayla Cooper-Williams

Another player I like for the Sun is Kayla Cooper-Williams. Cooper-Williams was not drafted in this year’s WNBA Draft but could be a crucial undrafted free agent signee. She is more of a defensive center averaging 3.0 BPG as senior and 2.6 BPG in her career at James Madison. Cooper-Williams is James Madison’s all-time leading shot blocker with 281. Along with her shot-blocking skills, Cooper Williams is an outstanding rebounder, as she grabbed 9.3 RPG last season. Cooper-Williams is not much of scorer; she scored just 6.3 PPG. She could step in and replace what Jones could do on the boards and the defensive end.

There is no replacing Jones; she is too valuable to the team to be replaced, but the Sun will need to find somebody who could fill her role for this upcoming season. Mompremier and Cooper-Williams could fill that role for the Connecticut Sun.
