After a game that came down to a shootout the Philadelphia Flyers win streak was halted at 8 games. A solid performance from Jonathan Quick not only during the game but during the shootout was able to lead the Los Angeles Kings past the Flyers. The question now switches to how many games will the Flyers’ point streak go?
Flyers Go Streaking
If you would have told Claude Giroux and Gritty at the NHL All Star break that they would be sitting 8 points out of playoff contention on February 8th, Gritty probably would have done unspeakable things to you on the spot. This is a team that everyone was counting out. With that though, the Flyers picked up this new sense of thinking. They no longer were looking big picture, it was no longer about will they make the playoffs. Now it was all about will they win the period. This lead them on their recent 8 game win streak that ended last night after the shootout went into extra shots. The future in no way is certain in either direction for this team now, but I think everyone in this organization should be adopting this period by period mentality.
Wayne Trains’ Future

That is, everyone but one person. The new GM Chuck Fletcher has to be wondering what in the H E Double Hockey Sticks he is going to be doing come the trade deadline on February 25th. In Philadelphia there is one name and many questions revolving that name on a lot of minds. Wayne Simmonds. First and foremost, where is he going to be playing. Philadelphia loves Wayne Simmonds for his hard nose, loyal, running and gunning style of play. That is to say, he is a bada**. Although, for his style of play and love for this city, not everyone in Philadelphia wants to keep Simmers. The question that Fletcher needs to ask himself is, is this team a cup team in the next 1-3 years?
It is my belief that around the trade deadline if Simmonds is not traded than he will be in talks for a contract renewal.
The Flyers’ Point Streak
With the Flyers’ point streak currently sitting at 9 games and 17 points it’s time to look ahead (only for a moment) and see when this point streak will end. I’m going to go with my guess and say they will take care of the Ducks at home taking them to two tough games back to back. The other Pennsylvania team and the Wild, I think we take the home guy on Monday and also will come out of Minnesota with a point some way some how. With this leading to a home and home against the Red Wings, this puts my prediction for the point streak to end February 19th against the Tampa Bay Lightening.
