Kevin Durant: Opts out of the deal with Golden State
The Warriors will have offer the max to Durant if he wants to re-sign with them. They could offer Durant a five-year, $221 million deal. If Durant decides to play somewhere else, the most a team could offer would be a four-year $164 million dollar deal. That is a lot of money to leave on the table if Durant left.
Rumors surfaced this week that Durant was upset with Warriors staff on how they mishandled his injury. That could cause him to pause on re-signing with the Warriors. Also, his ego could cause him to want to leave. Everybody called Durant’s move to sign with the Warriors a weak move and said you had to join somebody else’s team to win NBA title. So, i could see him leaving for that reason trying to prove he can lead his team. There is no doubt Kevin Durant opted out due to the above reason.
Knicks And Nets
A few teams are interested in Durant services. The New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, and Los Angeles Clippers are willing to offer Durant the Max. Another free agent Kyrie Irving is rumored to want to team up with Durant in either with the Knicks or the Nets. Early this year it had always been said Irving and Durant would join the Knicks. As of late, it has been the Nets because of the strong rumors of Kyrie joining them.
The Injury
Wherever Durant goes, he is likely to miss the entire 2019-20 season. The former two-time Finals MVP ruptured his right Achilles tendon in game 5 of the NBA Finals. The recovering time for that is usually a full calendar year. So whoever signs Durant will have to wait a whole year for him to come back to play.
Even with the injury, Durant will be sought after player when free agency kicks off. Now, all we can do is sit back and wait and see what happens. Kevin Durant Opts out of the deal with Warriors.
