SmackDown comes to us live tonight from inside the DCU Center in Worcester, MA!
SmackDown Town Hall
Last week, Kevin Owens voiced what many fans have been saying for months. Shane McMahon is taking TV time away from dozens of superstars in the back. In reality, McMahon is playing an amazing heel and doing his best to make the crowd hate him. Someone like Baron Corbin does this same job, the same way and gets a different type of heat. Because Shane isn’t a wrestler, these storylines are getting a bit absurd and WWE has realized that. That’s why KO went on his tangent last week.
This week, however, Shane McMahon has put together a ‘Town Hall’ meeting for the superstars to air their grievances about how their used, the state of SmackDown, etc. This is a great chance for people who never get on the card to say something that needs to be said. KO caught lightning in a bottle with his promo last week so why can’t it happen again?
With McMahon’s loss to Undertaker at Extreme Rules, this whole heel Shane thing has run it’s course. Now it’s time to get back to stories that are worth tuning in for. Hopefully this segment gives guys and gals opportunities to say something that needs to be said, and given an actual shot on TV for once.
Daniel Bryan Making Career-Altering Announcement
On Sunday at Extreme Rules, Bryan & Rowan lost their SmackDown tag team titles in a triple threat match to the New Day. Bryan was a mess following the loss saying that he has to “aim higher” when it comes to saving the planet. Bryan said he will shock the core of SmackDown Live and change the course of his career forever.
At this point Bryan seems to be done with the tag team division and is on to bigger and better things. My bold prediction for his announcement tonight is that he’s creating a new faction. Bring 2-4 guys up from NXT/NXT UK/205 Live and have them and Bryan run rampage over SmackDown for the foreseeable future. Compare this idea to CM Punk leading the New Nexus, but better.
Regardless of what Bryan ends up announcing tonight, will it be as big as advertised? WWE always seems to come up short when it comes to these types of situations. That remains to be seen, so we’ll just have to find out tonight!
Woman’s Tag Team Title Match
At long last, the Kabuki Warriors will get a shot at the woman’s tag team titles tonight against the Iiconics. This match has been in the works for at least a couple months at this point. The Iiconics won the titles with all of the momentum in the world, and now, the woman’s tag titles are the least relevant title in all of WWE.
It’s a no-brainer what needs to happen here. Have the Kabuki Warriors win clean and now WWE can start over with the belts. The Iiconics are a great team to hold the belts, but they never defend them and no storylines have been presented to them that the fans are supposed to care about. Plus, Asuka and Kairi Sane have done absolutely nothing since becoming a team. Things need to be changed in the woman’s tag division.
