Lisa Leslie, one of the greatest players to ever play in the WNBA will receive a statute outside of the Los Angeles Staples Center. She is the first female to receive such statue and the 11th to be placed outside the Staples Center. Leslie is also the first female to ever dunk in the WNBA and one time during a high school game she scored 101 by halftime. She’s definitely a legend for sure. She will be placed among some of the other legends we know such as Shaquille O’Neal, Magic Johnson, and others. Lisa Leslie; first female WNBA player to receive statue outside of Staples Center.
Leslie has had some great accomplishments throughout her WNBA career. Lisa was the seventh pick in the 1996 WNBA draft and she played her entire 12 years as an L.A Sparks. During her time on the hardwood, she averaged 17 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks. She’s been a two time WNBA champion, landing her two rings, named MVP of three all-star games. She holds the most points and rebounds, for now at least.
She retired her love for basketball in 2009 and went on to achieve other great endeavors in her life. She’s known for being a great player on and off the court. Just last Sunday she coached the Triplets to a Big3 championship and took coach of the year in her first season. How great is that! Let’s hope we can see some more love shown to the WNBA and our women players.
There’s no word on when the statue will be released or how it will look. Let’s hope they recreate one of her greatest moments and let’s also hope we can see some more WNBA legends get statues. With the playoffs right around the corner, things seem to be heating up. It’ll be interesting to see who goes all the way and who takes it home in the end. Cheers to Lisa Leslie for receiving something so great as this statue.
